Hello everyone, new to pc gaming and trying to figure everything out.

TL;DR- I have $1200, what would be the biggest upgrade from a 1660TI. Is the envy above good?

I had an MSI laptop with a 1660TI that I decided to upgrade. I play games like farming simulator, the division 2, and some call of duty zombies, nothing super serious.

I ended up buying the pc above, an HP envy with a 3070TI card I figured would be a huge upgrade from my old card after looking around online and looking at some benchmarks. Sadly, I didn’t see that huge of an improvement over my old one. Computer seems to be thermal throttling after 30-45 minutes of play time. Farming simulator seems to be able to be turned up a lot more from what I have it set at. Division 2 running about 80-90fps on just about max.

I was able to get the Envy for $999, but I have a budget of $1200. Is there something better for $1200 that would give me slightly better results? I was looking at an MSI desktop with a 4060, or a NZXT with a 4060TI. Will either of those be better?

Hello looking4ammodeals, and thank you for your submission to Gaming PC! If you are new please check out our rules over at the wiki [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamingpc/wiki/rules)!
We have recently added the useful feature of Title Flair! You can set this manually by clicking Flair under your post once you have submitted your post, but if you missed it in the rules there is a much better way that will automatically flair your post!

To do this simply add what your post is about in brackets before your title. For example for a Build Log you can type [Build Log] before your post so that it looks like this; [Build Log]My new awesome build!, and the bot will automatically set your flair to Build Log! This works for Build Log, Build Showcase, News, Hardware News, Hardware Release, Discussion, and Miscellaneous!

Also remember that this is a place for discussing and sharing our love of Gaming Computers! This is NOT the place for help building or determining what parts you should buy, that is better suited for /r/buildapc. Troubleshooting questions should be directed to /r/techsupport. Thank you again!

*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/gamingpc) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Pre-built, idk.. but as I’m sure most people on reddit would tell you, you can build one for cheaper that’s better. I just built a PC for $800 that has better specs than that. From what I’ve heard though, pre-built pcs are going to not only cost more, but have proprietary parts and do not focus on thermal control. I would consider building one for $1200, it’s a ton of fun!

  3. BaddMeest

At the $1200 price point you should be at minimum trying to get an RTX 4070 or RX 7800XT for the graphics card.

Is there a better PC for less than $1200?

Yes, if you build it yourself very easily yes. If you are averse to building you need to wait for some crazy pre-built sales and hawk /r/buildapcsales religously. DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE FOR A PREBUILT.

If you build it yourself something like this that has significantly better specs and is not using propreitary junk for the mobo, PSU and SSD and it costs about $1200.

That’s why pre builds suck you never know what you really get. often they cheap out on some parts to make good provit and bait customers with flashy parts like the graphics card or CPU.

Build your PC yourself just watch some YouTube videos or something similar it’s not that hard not like your doing rocket science.
You can get proper power supplys ram and cooling where you know that it is good.

  6. Specs are good but they cut a lot of corners sooo

For $1150 at microcenter you can get the 7700x combo + 7800xt which is better in every way and the components are higher quality

    7700x combo – $400

    Peerless assassin – $36

    7800xt – $500

    Psu – $75-$105

    1tb ssd – $40 Gen4

    Case – $60-$90

  7. goateatingpie

There’s is if you’re building it yourself

  8. killasuarus

You should build yourself. Here is a white build that I put together for just over $1200.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I’m looking into building one myself, it’s all just so confusing for a non-tech person haha. I’m slowly working through it all though
