Intel users upgrading from 13700K to 14700K

As tech Jesus said, Intel 13700K got a new name.

  2. RedTuesdayMusic

Hey, new number bigger = bigger customer

    Science

  3. Vashooter

Also iPhone users 😂 the 15 is my 13 with a usb c charger

  4. XENOR_31000

in general, ryzen or intel, never ugrade gen to gen, wait like 2 or 3 gen

  5. Lee_Van_Beef

14th gen does have hardware AV1 encode/decode onboard, which is a cool feature everyone seems to be missing.

  6. VeryLongHairGuy

At least, they can keep their current motherboard.

I remember when I had Intel CPUs, every time I upgraded, I was forced to buy a new motherboard each time.

  7. lovely_sombrero

I’d really like to see more benchmarks for us 12th gen users…

  8. _Middlefinger_

Interesting you pick that one when its the one K that does actually have more cores.

  9. MarceloWallace

    My last 3 upgrade were like 6700k > 9700k > 13700k

  10. Bubbaganewsh

I have a 13700K and will not be going to gen 14. It’s not worth spending the money.

  11. Dudi4PoLFr

More like the 13900K and 14900K because the 14700K is the only meaningful CPU in this generation.

  12. Im6youre9

It literally has 1000 more K’s than it’s predecessor

  13. Goshenta

    Went from an 8086k to a 13900k.

    We are not the same.

  14. vinnycthatwhoibe

And here I am with a 9900k like a jerk

  15. I felt like the 13700k just came out yesterday. Time flies.

  16. Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

Kinda ironic how this post applies to literally every new 14th gen cpu EXCEPT the 14700K.. Better sowtware suite and 4 more e-cores plus higher boost and efficiency. Sure it’s just a refresh, but as far as refreshes go it’s a solid bump up for no additional cost nor socket upgrade.

  17. Independent_Bowler_4

I’m not even slightly interested in 14th gen tbh I’m good for a while.

  18. I will be upgrading from an 11600k to whatever I end up getting

  19. Mercinator-87

I stay a few years behind because I’m cheap. I’m currently up grading from a 9900k to a 12900k. I will be two years behind as planned.

  20. redActarus

Windows 11 security will make sure to eat those minuscule %% performance gains…

  21. XWasTheProblem

If you’re upgrading gen-to-gen to the exact same SKU for any reason other than “I genuinely need every little bit of power I can squeeze out”, “my hardware died” or “it was on massive sale and I can either sell my older stuff or have use for two PCs”, you’re an NPC.

  22. OddsAgainstChance

Isnt the 14700K vs the 13700K the best upgrade this new generations offers? Like 13900K and 14900K as well as 13600K and 14600K are basically the same CPU

  23. Hairybum74

Now riddle me this Batman: would upgrading from a 12700k to a 14700k be worth it?

  24. BennieOkill360

Damn I am looking forward to my upgrade from i5 6500 to a i9 13th or 14th gen

  25. tS_kStin

I just upgraded to my 13700k after being on an E5-1680v2 for years and a 3770k before that. It been one amazing upgrade finally having modern hardware and NVME. Maybe in 5 years I’ll look at upgrading again.

  26. creamcolouredDog

“Up to 23% performance lift” really showing there

  27. Mobile-Art-7852

And the 12700k has one of the buttons on the shirt slightly different.

  28. michaelbelgium

I just saw intel reddit. “Gonna upgrade, it’s a great generation”

Oh. My. God. The fanboys are real with this one

After seeing some gaming benchmarks, basicly each 14th gen has same performance like 13th gen but uses more power (cuz ya know, it’s intel)

And STILL no competitor for AMDs X3D chips

  29. Is it true that the 14900k has a worse memory controller than the 13900ks?

  30. TheMatt561

Wait really? How far are they going to push this architecture

  31. Annointed_king

If you’re still upgrading electronics every year in 2023 your IQ is the funny number.

  32. Which is exactly why I dumped Intel for a 7800X3D this generation. 🤷

  33. Destroyer_742

Or do what I do and jump from 2nd gen to 12th gen.

  34. Out of all the CPUs you put in the only one that changed

  35. I am coming from 6600K and going to 14900K, so it will be an upgrade. And owning ‘the best i9 ever” sound funny too. (apart from them releasing a KS in a few months)

  36. MatyeusA

I still got a 2600x, and I am looking on upgrading this year, and it feels like i am watching clowns left and right.

  37. sketchysuperman

Ok cool, but what 13th gen owner is seriously upgrading to the 14th gen? I’d guess none.

  38. Osumunbro

this is extremely ironic considering the 14700k was the only chip to actually substantially improve

  39. Dawn_of_Enceladus

I mean, if you buy a 13700K and go straight to upgrade it for the immediately next gen one, sounds like you just want to burn money anyways.

I’ve never in my life upgraded a CPU for the very next-gen one, even when I had a low-mid tier one. The closest gen-wise upgrade I’ve ever done has been my last one from a R5 2600X to a R7 5800X3D, and that’s a mid-tier CPU for a top-tier CPU of two gens later.

  40. peasantpeach

Worst exemple possible, the 14700k gets 4 more E-cores compared to the 13700k.

  41. Epicporkchop79-7

    I went from a 2600k from 2011 to a 10700k in 2020. 2600k still ran everything fine. I’m figuring about
2029? Ish to replace the 10700k.
