Idk if this ever been discussed but Johnnys 911 is probably the only manual car in 2077 and v drives it like he was driving manual for years. I wish they added a dialog that says “Johnny wtf how do I drive this” it would be a fun moment.

I’d assume Johnnys knowledge of how to drive a manual would kinda just leak into Vs brain. A counter to this is when in PL Johnny has to show V how to use a phone. But imo its kinda same difference. The Johnny we see in the game is just V’s subconscious, presenting the fact that there are two consciousness in her brain in a way that a human can understand. Johnny theoretically doesn’t actually need to be there to convey informed to V, as both are already in the same brain.

  2. Far_Security8313

I’ll launch a what if theory so bear with me a second.

What if the connection between V and Johnny, allowing them to have access to each other memories, coulf also allow them to access each other capacity?

Like V being able to drive manual because Johnny knew how to do so, or V gaining the ability to talk about his giant cock all the time because Johnny constantly did?

  3. KingBeast117

Let’s assume v grew up in heywood it’s pretty solid chance at one point or another they learned how to drive one.
The corpo v likly had knowledge of a lot random things besides doing Corp dirty work all the time would present an interesting opportunity to learn.
    Nomad v well… that’s self explanatory.

  4. Smoothb10

Jonny was uploaded to V so she should have his knowledge as well.

  5. Adam-Smasher2077

It’s not like they’re neurologically linked and share memories or anything like that right? 🙄

  6. LuciferianGnosis

It’s not *that* hard to drive a stick once you’ve been driving for a while. It was hard for me when I was first starting out but that’s because I was already overwhelmed with everything else I was trying to learn to do well.

But at the end of the day it falls under The Rule of Cool. Just like my RED toon: A Nomad who drives a ‘71 Hemi ‘Cuda. Muscle cars are still around because it’s cool. No further explanation is necessary.

  7. Daemoni73

How do you know that the Porsche is actually not automatic?

We are talking about totally made up fantasy universe, with totally different advances in technology to ours.

Also, if you want to bring up “*but Porsches are not automatic*”… If you look at the car it is HEAVILY modified with Cyberpunky technology. It is not that far fetched to say that the car was modified to be automatic. If it was a stick drive to begin with.

  8. SquirrelTeamSix

Is it an actual manual? I know the real version is but the real version also doesn’t have the dash display or side cameras. I’d just assume it was modified to be auto

  9. Peaceful_Ronin

His mother insisted when he was learning to drive.

  10. No_Tamanegi

Johnny is a millennial. What makes you think he knows how to drive a manual?

  11. i don’t think the porsche even has a shifter inside, it’s pretty extensively modified

  12. GalaadJoachim

Just download the skill I guess. Shards can make you black belt in any sports, it surely can make you learn to drive.

  13. fellipec

How one don’t know how to drive a manual?

  14. This post DEFINITELY a child with no ability to drive a stick shift. Such a lack of gross motor skills that they can’t even comprehend how someone would be able to drive one in 2077 in a society filled with knowledge implants on a chip

  15. YesNoMaybe2552

You all act like driving manual is some kind of witchcraft. All you need is a little explanation and like five minutes of trying around.

  16. Baonguyen93

From Johnny’s memory or just download a software that teach V.

  17. RuskiHuski

Still on my first playthrough, and immediately my brain goes, “He’s a Nomad, a gearhead, his gun and tech understanding is eons beyond a simple 5-speed combustion transmission.” Guess a streetsmart cool AF V would also have a feel for the manual. The only one out of place is the Corpo. Sorry guys.

  18. Oh_Anodyne

That’s not really a hard stretch if V is a nomad.

Same with street V. They could’ve learned at a younger age if they grey up in Heywood or if they were *really* poor growing up, or if they gangsters in the area had “retro” cars which could be likely, especially if they’re as tightly knit as the Valentino’s where the gang would look over and protect the neighborhood because the police in NC won’t.

Street V could’ve also learned at some point in Atlanta.

Corpo V would have a decent amount of money and iirc they had wealthy parents growing up on Charter Hill with other corpo rats. V or their parents could also have been collectors of sorts before shit hit the fan for them.

  19. MasterChiefmas

Well, he does ride motorcycles. Unless something has changed in the Cyberpunk future, motorcycles are almost all manual transmissions. When I learned to ride motorcycles, I already knew how to drive stick in a car. It really wasn’t that hard going from one to the other since you already knew how to do the hard part- getting a feel for the friction point on the clutch.

Thinking about it, shifting is rather less obvious then in a car. In a car you usually have an image of the shift pattern. Except for some cars where you may have to lift up on the shifter to go into reverse, you can see what you are supposed to do. If you aren’t a motorcycle rider, you may not realize that the typical shift pattern, starting from neutral is down to go into first, and then up to go into all the other gears, with neutral being between first and second _only_(you shift with your foot).

  20. alikapple

If you buy the Japantown apt you can pick up the guitar there and play every Samurai song, so it seems V can do a lot of what Johnny can just through memory bleed

  21. Palanki96

because it’s not manual. even if it was, she could just download the knowledge, possibly from even Johnny

  22. It’s an auto, you don’t move your hands from the wheel when driving

  23. BigHugeBipples

I assume that Porsche has a swapped engine and drivetrain…

  24. GenitalPatton

Same way V can get shot hundreds of times and heal himself with a commonly found item but it is a mortal wound after one shot for Jackie. It’s a video game.

  25. Airbreathingoctopuss

Most of the other cars available are manual. Just listen to the noises the Hella makes when you drive around, change direction, stuff like that. You can hear the manual shifting of gears.

  26. Cyberpunk_Banana

Don’t want to ruin it, but the universe is all made up and the Porsche is there just because it’s cool

  27. Driving manual is really not that hard, it’s mainly if you have no clue what a clutch or gears are.

Basically, you move the stick to a higher gear while pressing the clutch if you wanna go faster.

Doesn’t take a genius, especially when Johnny is right there who knows how to drive it.

  28. Emotional_Snow_3222

You know what that would have been funny AF dialogue but V and Johnny’s minds are connected and they share memories so basically whatever Johnny knew V knew

  29. rufireproof3d

I’m sure it wouldn’t take Johnny long to teach V. Driving a manual isn’t that hard.

  30. I picked the Nomad path so it makes perfect sense to me that V can drive a manual.

  31. AUnknownuser2

He does have a low level cyberphyco / rocker boy Johnny silver hand to help. Through the lore and flashbacks we get in the game and the lore books he (silver hand) was starting or was already experiencing low level psychosis

  32. FairyQueen89

Nomad V: well… duh… nomads are known for knowing how to drive anything that can drive.

Street kid V: surely sat once in a manual car that they wanted to grab… got in trouble, learned how to drive manual

Corpo V: I’m sure there are skill chips for it and some had left its traces OR they just learned in in training for corpo duty… knowing how to drive manual sounds like a useful skill for corpo security to have.

  33. Maybe V grew up knowing how to drive manual cars

  34. CriticalKnoll

Well we know that in Edgerunnerd that you can just buy shards in 2077 that let you learn advanced martial arts techniques. I bet you could buy one that teaches you how to drive manual as well

  35. MinervaJB

    V doesn’t.

The stick in the 930 is pretty damn visible if you look at pictures of a RL [1977](https://www.gallery-aaldering.com/wp-content/uploads/gallery/32973015/32973015-4.jpg?v=10) [model](https://insider.hagerty.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1977-Porsche-911-Turbo-_3-1024×685.jpg). It’s very clearly missing in [this screenshot](https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/comments/jgxa17/interior_of_johnny_silverhands_porsche/) of the car in game. There’s no clutch either.

At some point between the manufacturing in 1977 and Johnny’s using it in 2023, the car was modified not only to run on CHOOH2, but also to have all the comforts and connectivity of modern cars and to be automatic.
