I was being dumb and my foot got hooked around the mouse cable which pulled the whole thing forward about 2 feet and on to a bed. It went off immediately and booted back up just fine, but now it’s showing red lights (2nd photo). Everything externally is plugged in but nothing will show on my monitor, it’s completely black. I don’t know a lot about PCs but I do know that he spent a LOT of time building this one when he was younger and it’s sentimental to him. Could someone please help me troubleshoot the issue or narrow it down?

Just tell him what happened. He can fix it and you can apologise. No biggy.

Probably not a good idea to tinker with it since you don’t know much about PCs, you might end up with more damaged done to it.

Best way is to tell him and apologize.

Or maybe if apologizing isn’t enough from your perspective buy another ram stick that is exactly the same specs as a gift so he can run dual channel.

Be honest and tell him, have a fun day taking it apart and putting it back together

  4. Jumpy_Army889

Running single channel ram, probably could use a upgrade anyway.

  5. introvertedgoof

Leave it alone and tell him what happened. You’re not tech friendly lol

STOP TOUCHING. ITS NOT YOURS. Just be honest with him and let him deal with it. He might have important shit on there and right now you’re doing the thing that you see on every sitcom where people aren’t honest, try to fix something in secret, and make it worse. just stop.

Hearing about what happened and what the screen is doing, I’d bet that the cable connecting the SSD has become loose.

HOWEVER, please don’t touch it if you don’t know what you’re doing. PCs can generally take a bit of a tumble, but not poking at the innards. Also, can be dangerous if you hit a capacitor mistakenly.

Please stop messing with it, you might make it worse. Just apologize to you bf and tell him the truth.

I am an IT professional and have seen thousands of builds. Take this with a grain of salt. To me, this doesn’t look like something that you could have done just by pulling this down onto a bed. The CPU and DRAM LED lights indicate an issue with either of those. The way the two pieces of hardware are ‘supposed’ to be affixed to the motherboard, a soft bump like falling onto a bed should not have unseated either of those so bad that it won’t boot properly. I’m sure there was a preexisting underlying issue that the accident exacerbated. Not created.

  10. You should probably come clean and apologise, but seeing as you seem to ignore everyone else that has told you that, just update us with what happens.

I’m not exactly sure of how much you know about PCs or for that matter how much he knows, but if, as your post seems to indicate, he is the more knowledge of the 2 of you, I would definitely allow him to look at it and try to figure it out when he gets home. He may be annoyed initially, but I’m sure he will understand that it was an accident.

However, if you insist on doing it yourself, then I would probably ensure that all cables are fully connected in their appropriate locations, and everything is installed correctly, essentially like building the PC from scratch.

If there’s anything you don’t feel comfortable with or don’t feel like you know what you’re doing, it may be better to do nothing for now until you learn more. You can easily do more harm than good when messing with internal components. Google/YouTube can be good resources with build guides and tech tips.

I’m sure that it will be fine in the long run. It’s unlikely that a small fall like that did any lasting damage. Hopefully it’s back up and running soon if it’s not already.

sounds like you’re going to end up single and on tinder lol.

Jokes aside, atleast it fell on a bed and not a floor, definitely let the owner fix it, regarding the sentimental value, i can share that view, i’m the same with mine, if my house was on fire,i’m rescueing my pc first before anything else

Reading that she keeps doing things makes me want to scream.

  14. Li3ut3nant_Dan

Only thing to do is tell him. I’m sure he’ll understand. If not, RMA the bf. lol

  15. Yeah, I don’t think you can fix that easily. The CPU light is on. If you’re lucky just the power cable got disconnected and you *could* fix that. But if that’s not it, the next step would probably be reseating the CPU and you should definitely don’t do that yourself.

  16. Not_Bed_

Just let him deal with it, the fact it even booted means that most likely there’s not any significant damage.

If he put together this he’s probably at least somewhat knowledgeable with pcs, so he has a higher chance of figuring out and fixing the problem than you have by reading our suggestions

It’s not an attack to you, just the sensible and safer option to take, just apologize as ofc you didn’t do it on purpose, he’s your bf after all I’m sure he’ll understand

Probably just unseated the DIMM slightly, if it wasn’t clicked in all the way a minor fall like that could do it. I’d suspect the CPU unseated if it had a heavy air cooler attached to it but that’s unlikely with just that little AIO block.

It’s nothing catastrophic though, just tell him what happened. There’s at least a 30% chance you won’t be fired immediately.

  18. Yoink1019

Was the mold inside the case there before?

  19. mindaltered

Tell him what happened, with those 2 codes he can fix it, its either the ram needs to be reset, or his cpu cooler needs to be reset. Like taken off and put back on, and the cpu one he’ll want thermal paste and do i t right. Nothing big from those 2 codes and what took place.

My guess would be that the gpu got loose from the beating and doesnt make a good connection with the pcie slot.

  21. SpringPuzzleheaded99

Imagine if this dude is a redditor and just comes on and sees this post laughs at the fact this person keeps fucking with it and then slowly realised its their own pc

  22. Ammysnatcher

It’s almost a guarantee your BFs AIO is slow leaking onto the rgb/fan controller

  23. It’s weird that the DRAM and CPU lights are on, it shouldn’t have been affected by knocking it over. The only thing that might’ve been affected is the hard disk drive, if it has one, or possibly the wires plugged in the back. The white one looks a little off to me.

  24. dasdzoni

    I spy with my little eye a dvi-d port, a vga port and a ps/2 port…

  25. Birdienuk3

    Stop fucking with it

Tell your bf what happened and apologize, maybe buy the dude some ram since he has only 1 stick

  26. Miseryyyyyyyy

That shit is dustier than my grandpop

  27. You drop my PC on the bed? Ah, no biggie. Can fix np. You posted pics of the inside of my case on r/PCmasterrace??? Wtf??

  28. Sno_Wolf

    #DON’T. TOUCH. ANYTHING!

Just leave it alone and tell him.
