This is why i never understand people putting their pc and stuff under a opening window. I would put a bed under there before anything remotely electronics for this very reason.

Don’t overreact, unplug everything (even internally), let it dry out *completely* over several days and if you’re techy enough / got a techy friend, take it to them to disassemble it and clean any possible corrosion with isopropyl. Most of the stuff should be fine if it’s dry before powering it up.

unplug let it dry thats the best way you could do for now, plug everything back if you think everything is dry

I’m confused… did your loop burst or did you leave the window open?

yikes! sorry that happened. definitely definitely do not try to turn anything on for awhile. i would personally tear down the pc and wipe dry as much as i could then let the components sit in an open air environment to dry. maybe use hair blow dryer to ensure no liquid anywhere to ensure no corrosion starts. keyboard i would do same, pull the keycaps and switches out and see if i could dry as much as possible by hand and let sit. for the monitor i would wipe and then maybe run a hair blow dryer pointed down those vents for a few mins.

Hey repair dude here. I have more than once cleaned wine, beer, and pop out of electronics. Just make sure everything is unplugged and discharged turn a few fans on it. If I thought anything was still in the item i would rinse it with distilled water as it will not corrode. then wait a day longer than you think you need to dry it out 🙂

If it wasn’t turned on when it happened then there’s no need to panic. Just unplug everything, disassemble what you can and let it completely dry.

  8. Unplug, dry with paper towels, and run lots of fans!

For some reason reddit did not save any Text unter this post.

To clarify: My upstairs neighbour accidentally flooded their apartment and the water came through the ceiling.

  10. The amount of comments guessing what has happened here and the amount of replies OP has made saying the water came from the upstairs apartment…

Unplug all the wires, including internal. Leave it to dry for a 3-7 days, in a non humid room and maybe a room with a heater nearby to help a tiny bit with the evaporation over time. As long as power is not flowing in and it drys, only problem could be corrosion

Running out of cereal is nightmare material.

leave window open? storm break it? how tf this happen OP?

  14. unstableaether

So your first reaction was to take 1000 photos instead of drying stuff off?

  15. MrByteMe

Have you found a new appreciation for air cooling ? Or are you going to risk this again ?

  16. fluffyunikxrnx

If it wasn’t on, and you give it a few days maybe even a week to dry, you should be fine. Just don’t turn it on till you are sure all the moisture has evaporated

  19. thedetailonitisnice

Make sure you contact their insurance. Also contact me with that mousepad name, its nice.

  20. DarkChoomba

Well, good news is the area looked like it could have used a good cleaning anyway.

  21. visualdosage

What happened?, window open while raining?

  22. Hopefully you or the neighbor have some insurance to claim the damage caused by the leakage in case you will not rescue your PC.

  23. Ammysnatcher

I could have told you eating a bowl of soup near your pc was a recipe for disaster before it happened if you had asked smdh

I just spilled latte on my keyboard so I’ve soaked it in tap water for a few minutes, poured fresh water over it and then poured half a bottle of isoprop over it to displace as much water as possible. A few days drying and it will either work or it wont.

Distilled water is better, but I’ve seen just rinsing under taps work wonders. Just make sure it doesn’t see power until it’s clean and dry.
