Why? Do we need WIFI? ON A FREAKING DISHWASHER?!?!?!?!?!?!

We don’t. No one needs. I sell those things and I’ve never had anyone ask for WiFi one. If the dishwasher people buy has WiFi, they never use it. Never.

The same reason we need wifi on a toaster. Lol

I can see that for anything with a user involved cycle time. An alert when it’s done would be great. A more granular timer start, in theory, could be utilized (vs a face mounted 2-4-6 hour timer). What I can’t understand is Wi-Fi on refrigerators.

If I’ve never owned a smart appliance, I won’t know what I’m missing. I’m perfectly happy with dumb appliances.

So in the future they can block x function behind a paywall

I’d probably use it to turn off the dryer if I left my house and I forgot it was on but the chances of that are pretty low.

    So they can:

    – Charge more money because it’s a “premium feature”

    – Use it to collect data from you and phone home with it to sell your info to advertisers

    – Push firmware updates to the dishwasher (why the fuck a dishwasher would ever need a firmware update is beyond me)

The answer of course is so that corporations can collect data about you through those devices “phoning home” and sell you more things, including software based “updates” or features, that you probably don’t need.

This is so very cyberpunk. Thanks for posting it here.

  9. To check your subscription is up to date so you can continue with premium features. Or rather that’s what all consumer corporates are aspiring to now.

How else would They know if your forks are clean?!

So the corpo overlords can track our dishwasher use and better advetise to us. Also, adding an additional failure point is great for planned obsolescence.

    It’s not a need.

But it is damn nice having wifi connected appliances sometimes. I don’t need to manually set timers as I’m trying to crush through chores between games or movies or yardwork on a weekend. No more forgetting about the laundry! I can even stage certain settings, or use things as part of routines.

Hell, that routine part is amazing. Being sble to have a color light fire up so I don’t miss an audio alert has been *so* useful and I’m not even hearing impaired.

Ah.. the questions of a neurotypical.

  14. You don’t, same way you don’t need chocolate, a ps5, or a 3 week holiday.

Our new washing machine apparently has Wi-Fi. I’m not bothering to set it up though.

  16. tipedorsalsao1

I mean personally I would like to know when it’s done but im also the sort of person to just use an esp to do that.

I’m the same with any smart appliance. Why does my fridge need an OLED screen¿ why do I need to be able to control my oven remotely¿

  18. TruffelTroll666

Well, how else would they revoke your washing licence
