I decided to try and lower temps on my GPU for fun. I took apart my RTX 4070, replaced all the thermal pads, replaced the factory paste with Noctua’s NT-H2 paste, and attach two Antec Storm 120mm fans using zip ties. I plugged the fans directly to my motherboard. Load temps went from 65 degrees C to 45 degrees C. I highly recommend for you crazy people out there!

its not the prettiest solution but by far the cheapest and easiest.
not sure 65C was any issue to beginn with BUT who cares, every degree counts.
Good shit ive always said that the cooling sultion provided by factory was shit, they slap on fans that do almost nothing, this proves my point even further thank you
I know it is not that rednecky but a Micro 4 Pin PMW to regular PMW adapter exists so you can let the card control the cooling!
So your card had below the average temp and you Jerry rigged it?
You are a dumbass, sir.
I think this guy started a new trend.
Holy shit people he improved his temperatures and probably performance of his graphics card while tinkering in a hobby he enjoys. Yes, he voided any warranty he may of had, but what he did most likely isn’t going to change the cards performance/longevity besides what I already mentioned.
I think it’s neat. I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that myself but if I did I totally would! Nice job OP
This should be a factory option tbh I think it would sell well
That’s that after warranty fun.
Lol zip ties are so important all across the board. Love this. May be doing that too
Ghetto mod
Edit: you even used zip ties. I love it. TPU would also love this.
Why stop here? Add a few thermal pads on the backplate and zip tie another 2 fans on your backplate to increase temps even further.
Your approach is a bit redneck, but it works. Changing thermal pads and thermal paste is a tried and true way to reduce temperatures. Adding additional fans also helps to blow heat away from the heatsink.
lol did the same with my 3080

Good job, you can also use PTM7950 on the GPU die and TG-PP10 on VRAM, VRMs, ans anywhere there are thermal pads for a CRAZY drop in temps.
Couple that with a simple undervolt and youll never hear your gpu fans again, even those 120’s.
65 isnt bad
When the at home DIY produces better results than the OEM
Can somebody explain why going from 3 fans to 2 improved OPs temps?
Did this to my 1080ti cause it was out of warranty and the fans started to die.
Ended up slapping a NZXT g12 bracket on it with a cpu cooler attached.
My temps never go above 65 even under full load.
I just straight deshrouded mine, put a bigger heatsink, and 2 Noctua fans. Runs at a chilly 45C.
What thermal pad is that?
Gigabyte wind…-force you to DIY
I lowered my temps 15°C just by changing the thermal paste and pads. My card was already out of warranty, so I didn’t have much to lose except a few degrees.
i have the same setup on my 1080ti
How much did you increase the RPM when you set the fan curve?
Any louder with the bigger fans?
Sheesh is the Gigabyte cooler that mid?
On picture 2, what are the GPU connectors connected to? Or are those the fan connectors daisy chained together?
Obligatory “If it works, it ain’t stupid”
There are also off the shelf options too like the Morpheus coolers. I put a Morpheus 2 + 2x noctua a12x25 on the 1080 in my living room pc, it now idles at 37c and peaks around 52c stable under full load.
