After nerve surgery and wrist pain it’s an absolute joy to lean back and game in comfort. I’ve never played PC with a controller before and I’m almost in tears im so happy. Why did I wait this long?!

A handheld rollerball mouse. I use it at my desk job during the day and my wrist pain is basically gone. I can even come home after work and use my personal computer if I want to. I can hold the mouse in my left or right hand and still do everything with ease. I can even hold the mouse behind my back if I wanted to lol

As far as cheap upgrades go, a mouse with extra buttons on it has been the biggest daily use upgrade for me, by far. Just having quick access to 4 extra buttons has actually been a huge thing for daily use. Usually, mine is set to change/reset the zoom on websites, so I can read different text easier while casually scrolling around. Slightly annoying to have to change profiles manually for specific games, but some mice do that automatically too.

Another one is a powered USB hub that has switches on it so I can leave stuff plugged in (but off) so I don’t have to constantly plug/unplug stuff when I want to use it.

My number one upgrade by far though ended up costing me a bit more than that. A cheap surround sound system I picked up on clearance+sale. Being able to hear everything crystal clear even if I have to turn on fans or if the building I’m in is loud? Absolute game changer. I got fed up with having to crank my monitor’s volume to the point audio got distorted just so I could hear over fans, and couldn’t use headphones since they’d mean I could miss things too easily (like calls, deliveries, pets wanting attention, etc). Speakers are definitely the best upgrade peeps can miss out on.

For gaming I also have to say a controller, I’m on my 3rd one allready, 1 got issues with batteries not making good contact and disconnecting (even using cable), second one I dropped a few to many times and something cracked inside and it was dead.

If I can say best ever disregarding budget limit, my Valve Index VR headset, I get lot of arm/wrist pain from mouse and keyboard, using VR to control my pc is a godsense.

I upgraded from shitty monitor speakers to a pair of 5 watt no name external speakers. 🙂

I have the reverse issue I can’t hold a controller for more than a few minutes without my hands and arms going numb from old shoulder and neck injuries so my saving grace was keyboard and mouse. Hope you have many comfortable hours of gaming ahead of you!

A front panel usb 3.0 add on for my case what a game changer (older case did not have one built in)

Just picked one up this week too and I have to say it’s way more comfortable than my “old” PS5 controller in my opinion.

My best purchase might have been a 15m HDMI cable for $20 wich I have routed along the wall under my bed so I can game on the TV while laying in bed for when I don’t feel like sitting at my desk.

I play most PC games with a controller unless it’s an FPS

I got an Xbox Elite controller for $120ish and after playing KB&M almost exclusively for 10 years, it’s a nice change of pace. Feels hella good in the hand compared to any other controller

I have same red one. U know some games are made to play with controller. I like xbox one because it’s very durable. It lasts many years

An enclosure for an m.2 SSD. Absolutely a game changer for anyone who makes a hobby out of cannibalizing and building working machines out of recycled laptops. $20 to reduce the time it takes for a full OS install and software setup from hours to minutes.

  12. i overlooked a decent mouse pad for so long, was a game changer for Getting Over It speed runs (used to use nothing or like cardboard lol)

Mine was my newest keyboard. A keychron k3e3. I love it and such a step up from the cheaper KB’s i would usually buy

I think one of the best upgrades I got is called a “PC Panel”. It’s essentially a volume mixer with physical knobs and mixers. If you’re someone with sensitive hearing (like me), it’s extremely useful to be able to fine tune sounds coming from Spotify, chrome, current window, overall sys volume and have buttons to skip/pause music and mute my mic on discord.

Why does your controller look smaller than mine? Do they have sizes!?

    my custom designed/built keyboard.

I’m weird in that I like using a gamepad but I got sick and tired of Razor software so I figured I’d just make my own. 4 months later I ended up designing and building my own keyboard, with multiple layers for the games I play, and its been great for my bad shoulder… all for $70 USD.

extra bonus, a split keyboard is soo much less desk space then even a TKL and game pad I about doubled my usable mouse space to 3 1/2 feet… its insane.

A steering wheel on a third hand market for 5€

When the steam controller came out I thought it was a stupid design at the time, just picked one up off eBay and have to say. I actually love it, it works for games and can control my mouse pointer on the desktop.

2XL mouse pad for keyboard + mouse

If you’re used to mouse and keyboard, i suggest the dual sense for gyro assisted aim in almost every shooter.

  21. darknetwork

“Anime” themed mousepad. It help my wrist.

  22. HankThrill69420

I’m glad the keyboard/mouse superiority thing is going away, there is nothing wrong with using a controller and some games even work better with one. I’ve particularly been pleased with Steam’s DS4 support.

i’ll always choose keyboard/mouse for a PvP shooter, but i’m with you, it’s nice to lean back.

Is that 49″ super ultra wide and a 32″ on top? asking cuz im thinking about buying samsung g9 and put my current 1440p 32 on top like you have now

  24. And another example to what I am telling people on every occasion, yet they “know better” and then end up like this.

Your wrist pain doesn’t come from using a mouse but from using your mouse incorrectly. The way you were using it is a way too small mouspad, high sentisivity and you were moving your mouse with just your wrist.

They correct way is the exact opposite. A properly sized mousepad, like e.g. 450x400mm or so, low sensitivity (ideally the lenght of your mouspad/360°) and moving mouse with your whole arm, using wrist maybe only for some micro adjustments here and there but ideally you would want it to be steady as rock.

If you prefer a gamepad now, it’s cool. I’m just here to tell you that it wasn’t using the mouse itself that was your problem but how you were using it. Seriously, it’s way too common to see people use the mouse incorrectly.

  25. I can second the use of a controller. As someone who works 6-7 days a week and constantly uses their hands to wrench/reef/lift/etc, keyboard/mouse use is just..I don’t have the stamina left lol.

Using a controller, I can kick back, put my feet up, and get hella comfy while playing (even occasionally nodding off while doing so 😅).

  26. Not 100$ (twice as much) but Elgato Stream Deck +. The one with knobs. It gives you access to Elgato Wave Link mixing software. Once you try it, you will never want to go back to just 1 audio channel on your PC.

This is a recommendation for straight up everyone, not just streamers, etc.

    Headphones

Got the Soundcore 30Q. Having actual headphones is much nicer then using my old turtle beach headset.
