I already have tried compressed air but the dust is pretty stuck on, and I’m not sure if it’s best to just blow the dust further back towards the motherboard. Also not sure how to get the dust under the fan blades out. Thanks!
Would a teacher be mad at you because you don’t know what you should know, or would he just teach you? Idiots
Anyway, this cooler is very dusty, you should take it off (if you got thermal paste to reapply) so it would then be easier to take the dust off.[https://youtu.be/YgKk1c4op_0?si=13Dtk25607v-YHq7](https://youtu.be/YgKk1c4op_0?si=13Dtk25607v-YHq7)This video shows you a proper way to disassembly it, then armed with some cloth you should be able to take the dust off.
When it comes to the cooler metal, the only way would be to use compressed air, otherwise carefully inserting a thin cloth and wiping.

You should’ve cleaned it out long before now looking at it

I use a 1/2″ paint brush
Additionally I bought the cheapest electrical air blower on Amazon for inflatables and finish it with that.

Step 1 is to quit smoking.

Remove the cooler, remove the screw securing the fan to the heatsink, run the heatsink under tap water, clean the fan using wet wipes. Make sure the everything is dry before reinstalling

Also get a better cpu cooler. What is your processor and what temp is it running at? I was using stock cooler for a couple of months and upgraded to noctua cooler for around 45 bucks. Night and day difference

Lick all that dust, that the authentic PCMR way.

Just get a vacuum with an attachment, and suck while brushing it with a cheap paint brush. Or rinse it with a garden hose, while it’s on of course.

The same way I do. Get a new tube of thermal paste. Take the CPU FAN, HEATSINK , and CPU out, inspect cpu and socket for dust dirt and debris. I use a low pressure air hose and tool to clean heatsink, and fan. Apply a literal ring finger nail sized “spot” of thermal to CPU and reassemble, don’t spread the paste like many videos show, it’s not necessary. Reboot PC, download your favorite CPU performance app, and monitor temperature for a few moments, run a high end game if you have it to check out well your reassembly is performing.

I don’t know, what half the guys are smoking here.
Just can of air or air compressor. Unless you are confident in what your doing don’t dismantle the pc!
Considering you are asking how to clean a cpu cooler, don’t attempt a further clean.
Shaner9er1337
Step one: press down or hold the fan so that it does not move.
Step two: use an air compressor on a lower psi or canned air and spray dust out.
Step three: enjoy.

you’ll have to take it off and apart to clean it. I personally use a paintbrush which can get into all the crooks and crannies really easily and personally that’s what I use anyway it’s a lot more faster than using AIR imo and allows you to get pretty spec and span on the inside of your case.

Cotton wool buds & isoprol alcohol, use the tips of the stick, to edge the blades slightly.

Everyone saying compressed air and painstakingly cleaning each fin with a cloth. I unscrewed the heatsink from the fan and just washed it in the sink 😆 worked a dream, dried it off, rescrewed and repasted; no issues 👍I have the exact same cooler btw can be kinda tricky unscrewing

Fine bristle paint brush will remove dust very well. I have 24 fans in my case and just cleaned every single one of them. A bit of a chore. I used this kit, but you could just buy a cheaper paint brush locally. [Small Portable Nylon Anti Static Brushes Electronics Computer Keyboard Laptop Cleaning Brush Kit (Black, Set of 8): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074LZ649V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
First I blow all the loose dust and particulate off with a small electric air blower (you can also find one on Amazon) and then I clean all the stuck fine dust off with the paint brush tool. Looks almost brand new after.
For this job specifically, remove the fan from the cooler, should be easy enough.
