Gtx 970 next to Red Devil 7800xt. It does not even fit my computer case.

The graphics she told you not to worry about

to be fair, that was a really small GTX 970

It’s funny how we wanted tech to get smaller then it got bigger again 😂

  5. Actually, they got WAY more efficient. [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h47-RliCKCw) GPU is near the size of your GTX970 but it would demolish it in performance. Only a few % of people will buy it because bigger is worth better performance to the majority of people.

You should be worried about how clean they got to

  7. And then magically when the 50 series comes out the 40 series is gonna be tiny again.

I had R9 270x in 2013, had to buy new “modern” case to fit it.

That’s kinda deceptive. Late cycle cooling solution vs early cycle cooling solution.

10.5 inches for the founders edition 970.

6.6 inches for this mITX edition.

That red devil card is a tad longer, 13.1 inches long. But it’s also longer than some of the 7800xt products available. Reference design for a 7800XT is 10.5 inches, and what do you know? Same length as the founders edition 970.

I wonder what happened to that CM x PNY 4.5-slot 4090 card. It puts some fun into people who own a Lancool 216 case and a MSI X670E Carbon motherboard since they will realize a 7-slot ATX case is too small to fit the GPU in air cooling mode.

I hope cards shrink again in the long run. Seems to go against the theory of technology.

  12. I dunno, I seen longer looking sound cards, if anything, they got fat!

Well modern Nvidia cards are usually like half as long as the cooler. Idk what’s up with this one

  14. Graphics cards got big because board power got big.

The GTX970 launched in September 2014 and was the second fastest card in the nVidia stack at… 145W TDP. That 7800XT on the other hand launched as the fourth fastest AMD card in the stack at… 263W TDP.

Over the past five years, both AMD and nVidia have basically abandoned any sense of efficiency to chase performance. 145W now wouldn’t even get you a stock RX7600.

The day will come when graphics cards will have slots for the mainboard to plug in…

No, GPUs were already that Big when u bought the other one

The cooling bits did. Often the card itself is half the length of the radiators

Yep. Upgraded from a rx 480 to a rx 6700 and jeez my new card is huge compared to the RX 480. Don’t even mind it since the rx 6700 gets to a max temp of 60-65c and my old card was always hitting 80-85c.
