This is all heavily circumstantial information, but it definitely has more merit than other CoD Zombie theories.
The theory back in the day was that Shangri-la originally existed on Mars when the planet was habitable and the Vrill-Ya were the planets race. When the planet became uninhabitable they used their powers to teleport/transport Shangri-la to Earth (hence the loading screen). When you enter the eclipse mode you actually go back from modern day Shang on Earth to when it was still on Mars.
Gary and Brock found Shangri-la during an expedition on Earth and while there they activated the eclipse mode and go back to when Shang was on Mars and during their attempts to go back get stuck in an infinite loop.
The supported evidence that Shangri-la was once on Mars include the dev conversations about it on Twitter and the background used on the map having the word Mars in the code string. Then there is the fact that when entering the eclipse mode you’re clearly in a different time zone to when you first start the map, as well with the way BO1s eclipse mode is set up, as you can see in Der Riese it is perfectly circular, while in-game for Shangri-La, it isn’t as smooth, now… you may say that is an oversight, but in the BO3 clip of eclipse mode it is far more rigid, which also happens to line up with how Mars Phobos moon is, I’d say it is a bunch of coincidence, but they do stack up, it’s not concrete, but there is enough stuff to make the theory plausible.
I say that Shangri-la is in Nepal on a poll and the whole damn subreddit goes nuts. This is the fifth post in a day about it. At least I changed my mind and agree with you now.
