Unpopular opinion: shadows is over rated as fuck and tried too hard to be a mix of Mob and Origins

I mean, the map definitely has one of the best environments, but I mean, it feels like I ALWAYS have to be doing something like once you got the setup done, it falls off for me. I think it is a fun map, but I gotta give it a 7.7

Damn, the Shadows of Evil lover, only one con. Fair enough though, I’m probably gonna struggle with thinking of some during this writeup. What a fantastic stretch of maps, man. Mob-Buried-Origins-Shadows-Der Eisendrache. Still, all maps have their flaws, only fair to go over Shadows’s!
Yeah, 4 player EE’s ain’t the best. This is probably the worst one, too. Not only do you need to do this EE to get Rev’s super EE done, but you can literally do all but *one* step on solo. At least Shang had the common decency to not give players any hope with it’s EE. It’s a shame. And lastly (yep, definitely not here long) I don’t think this should’ve been the only base game launch map. There should’ve been a smaller, simpler map that players didn’t have to pay extra money for, that way more players could ease into BO3’s Zombie mode (yeah, The Giant is that, but you have to cough up more money for it). That’s more on BO3 then it is on Shadows though, in fairness.
Man, this map is so good, just everything about it screams effort, polish, and love. No offense to Cold War’s maps, but none of them held a *candle* to this, or any of BO3’s offerings imo. The setting is fantastic, a vibrant city that eventually gets taken over by Cthulu-like monsters. The celebrity cast for this one is sick, like Mob’s they all got their own little story to tell and are connected thematically pretty well together. I prefer Mob’s cast, but only barely, and like you said, Nero and Jackie “Fucking” Vincent are definite highlights. Beast Mode is a fun take on Mob’s Afterlife mechanic, and it’s really fun for the setup process, good stuff all around. The map layout is pretty good! You got a central hub of sorts that connects to three different districts, each one holding a perk, a shield part, and a fuse. Traversal is made really quick and easy with the teleporters, or the tram if you want a scenic route (or a breather). The boss zombies are pretty good! Margwa is definitely on the upper tier of them for sure, being immensely threatening, but also manageable if you focus and take your time on it. And the flies and meatballs that I forget the actual name of are great alternatives to hellhounds! The Apothican Servant is just a Gersh Device taking the form of a gun, in retrospect, but god does it feel powerful, and it’s design is sick. The Apothican Sword is also a great specialist weapon, definitely a top tier one in BO3. This map has the best round change music in the series, in my opinion. Shit goes unreasonably hard. I agree that the soundtrack in general is great, jazz with an undertone of “oh shit, something’s gone wrong”. While I’m really disappointed that Widows is the only new perk in BO3 (especially since from Ascension onward, the only maps that didn’t introduce a new perk were Shang, Nuketown and Origins). But, I’ll give credit to Shadows for introducing it, shit’s one of the best defensive perks in the series. And lastly (though there’s so much to go over) being able to skip round if you so choose by shooting the Shadowman. Sometimes I just wanna skip to round 5, making this perfect for me.
This is often up there with the big four (Mob, Origins, and DE are the other three) in the conversation of which is the best map of all time. And honestly, I can’t choose between the four of em, my opinion on this changes daily. They all do fantastic things, and have easily carved their own identity. Shadows is a fantastic map, and what little I find to be wrong with it is saved by the sheer quantity of quality content. 9.7, I get why people wouldn’t like it, but I love it

Top 5 map! Also the only map I’ve gotten over round 50 on. I’m not good at high rounds lol

I’ve always thought of Shadows of Evil as Mob 2.0 with Origins elements sprinkled in like the rituals basically being generators in Origins and the main pack a punch room being a lot like the crazy place in that you have portals all over the map that take you to it, it’s where the EE ends, and it’s almost the perfect area to train but the walls are set up just right that it never feel completely safe for you to do that. And really this whole concept is great imo. It mixes elements from 2 of my favorite maps of all time and while I don’t think it quite surpasses either of them it certainly rivals them both in greatness as another 10/10 map, as close to perfection as any map could be and has been.

Every map turning out to be a 10/10 for this guy

Cons: a pain in the ass to navigate
poorly designed from gameplay pov

I’d go 9.5. There are many good things about Shadows and not many cons. I’d put it as my number 2 map all time.
My only real issue is my RNG on getting the xenomatter for the Apothicon Servant. Either I get it the first round it’s available, or it never shows up.

I just have to wonder how people complain about Dead of the Night super hard super dificult pack a punch
And then praise Shadows of Evil…

I know people hold it dear but i give it an 8.3
It IS fun to play, but i cant make myself touch this map with a 20 foot pole if i dont got a buddy
its a good map, but I absolutely hate it on solo

One of my favorite maps. The high round strategy is a big W in my opinion, one of the most enjoyable high round strategies in all of zombies, combining training, camping and forcing you to move because of the margwa every 4 to 6 rounds. 9.9/10 personally, it would be a 10 if not because of the final EE step.

Will the MW3 zombies have any returning characters?

I give it a 9. Easily my favorite BO3 map. Agree with everything you said, plus the pack-a-punch camo is one of the coolest

No EE should require 4 players.
Literally the only flaw is the 4 player EE
