Did you do any Black Box events prior to this? If so, completing that gives you a second life kind of thing. When you’re overwhelmed and get hit a bunch, a ghost guy comes in and protects you briefly.

Black box side missions can give you a sort of “self revive” type save, so definitely worth doing. Also, if you do the aether tube/crystal filling mission first, you can use the aether burst to kill all the mimics in the central hub.
