There’s a bug with stim pistols where if you drop the stim pistol the game puts you in a state of instant death, even with teammates or a self-revive equipped. Presumably at some point earlier in the match you had a stim pistol equipped but you dropped it for the munitions box.
Logic goes like this:
When you spawn in, the game says “when this guy’s health reaches zero, he will be eliminated, UNLESS he has teammates to revive him OR the means to self-revive” and then waits for your health to reach zero before doing anything about it.
In solos, you spawn in and the game says “ok this guy has no self-revive or teammates so he’s insta-dead if his health reaches zero”. Then you pick up a self-revive and the game says “he now has the means to self-revive so if his health reaches zero give him access to the downed state so he can revive”. If you use up your self-revive or drop it, the game says “he no longer has the means to self-revive, so revoke his access to the downed state. He’s now insta-dead upon zero health.” Same thing happens if your teammates all die and you have no self-revive left, the game toggles you from “he can get downed” to “he will insta-die”.
That’s all fine and dandy.
The bug occurs when you drop a stim pistol. Regardless of teammates alive or other self-revives equipped, when you drop a stim pistol the game says “he could have used that stim pistol to self-revive, but he dropped it, so revoke his access to the downed state”. The game *should* check for other revive opportunities like teammates or self-revives, but it doesn’t, it just stupidly toggles you to an insta-death state.
A workaround to prevent this after you drop a stim pistol (revoking your access to the downed state) is to drop/stow and equip your self-revive again. Upon re-equipping the self-revive the game says “he just equipped a self-revive so give him access to the downed state”, which toggles you back into the correct state. Unfortunately in the heat of battle (you know, having fun), players shouldn’t have to be faffing around with workarounds for buggy software, but so it goes.
