Just built the desk this week. NOT DONE YET!!! Chair is new and I love it. First nice chair. Soji. Book shelf needs to go. Set up another nano fish tank on the left side yesterday. Will be fresh water with mossy drift wood theme. Right tank will have neon vibrant corals that will grow over the next couple years to fill out.
I hate cable management but at some point that has to happen under the desk. Someone already told me PC on carpet is bad… But… Don’t really care honestly it’s been fine there for years. Not a really fancy computer. 7 years old. Plays DOTA and Baldur’s Gate at max graphics.
New things to come:
I want a tall stock plant on the left of the desk that will leaf out above the desk. The little fish tank on the left. New art work… The dali prints don’t fit the theme. Might try a metal piece but really want a large photo of a forest above the computer. Like from a drone image top down view.
Once I saw some of the other posts on here (that are just downright disgusting) I thought someone might be inspired to start a desk tank. Fresh water is a bit less invasive so will post another update in a month when things are coming together a bit more.
Open to any suggestions from y’all about how to make it nicer. This is such a neat group.. maybe a carpet or something??

Did you put that led strip on the desk or did it come with the desk?
Id move the tanks off the desk as soon as you can and have then on another stand.
Fresh tank on the left – as a precaution just in case of leaks.
Saltie on the right can have salt spray and you don’t want your electronics to exposed to all that.
I’ve owned both type of tanks and wouldn’t have them on same desk as pc.
You are going to hate yourself when the fish tank cracks and explodes for no reason.

You have a neat desk but there are so many bad ideas here I’m struggling to name them all.
Water is insanely heavy. That standing frame is strong but not strong enough to hold an aquarium with gravel and hardscape on a cantilevered desktop, especially considering you’ve now added *another* tank to the opposite side, plus your monitor. With gravel/sand, hardscape, and filter, the saltwater tank is easily over 100lbs.
There is competing information on whether or not blue light is actually detrimental to your eyesight but a metal halide bulb at 20,000k in your direct field of vision seems like a great way to give yourself wicked eyestrain regardless.
Putting over a cubic foot of water on a moving, cantilevered platform is a terrible idea. HOB filters are also prone to leaking where the pump gasket fits in on the bottom and you have all of this over your surge protector.
In addition you’re now saying you’ve added a nano tank to the left side of the desk, directly above your PC. Depending on size that could be anywhere from another 10-30 or 40lbs of water and hardscape cantilevered above your PC. Standing desks when overloaded have a tendency to jump a thread on the screw if you’re raising it. It might not collapse but the desk bucking even an inch on either side could send a solid half a gallon of fresh and saltwater sloshing onto your peripherals and onto the floor.
I’ve spent a lot of time around PC’s and aquariums and they don’t mix. I would not want to do aquarium maintenance or a water change above live electronics. I would rethink this entire setup and consider getting a strong aquarium stand designed to hold the loads of both tanks.
