Black Ops World. Am I stupid? Black Ops World introduced sex to zombies, which I think most fans have been clamoring to return. The fact that it had every map from every game, including ones that haven’t came out yet. I don’t think I even have to mention the competitive scene for the game, especially ZWC 20XX where John Call of Duty broke the world record of round 69,420.

Black Ops 2.
Grief/Turned, buildables, the bank/weapon locker system, perma perks, weapon upgrades separate from PaP, a new perk machine for every map (Aside from Nuketown Zombies), new ways to obtain certain weapons beyond just the mystery box/wallbuys, etc.
Could also argue that it was truly the start of the shift towards easter egg-centric maps. Of course, Moon’s easter egg was pretty huge at the time, but you’re not missing out on anything if you don’t do it. Whereas the BO2 maps had increasingly obscure/complex gameplay elements that the average person will never experience unless they look up a guide (Which then became even more prominent in BO3/4).

Black ops 2. BO4 really just expanded elements added in BO3.

I wanna bring up Cold War. It seems like the start of what Zombies is gonna be for the next good while, and hey, it’s not a bad one. Killstreaks, more customizable then ever, maps feel smoother overall to play on due to extended movement such as mantling, and Outbreak is successful enough that apparently the amount of people who played it compared to round based was essentially 50/50. I don’t personally like all the changes, but many do, and it looks like we’re sticking with em for what’s to come. Pretty excited to see it.
Also Black Ops world is an honorable mention, introducing steamy Richtofen/Dempsey action was a pretty bold choice on Treyarch’s part
