Personally I think that the ending of Tag was always roughly what was going to happen. But I think the journey & storytelling between BOTD & Tag was altered due to unforeseen circumstances during Black Ops 4’s life cycle.
This image above shows Ultimis Richtofen with the rest of Primis at the house, which made sense after Primis Richtofen dying in BOTD. I think the original plan was to explore this more, perhaps having them show up to confront Monty after he killed Maxis in AO.
The writing on the wall of classified “Primis will fail, Ultimis will prevail” also never came to fruition and supports this.
Why would Samantha have her voice in Edward’s body at the end of moon’s EE when it would still be his vocal cords?

I never really understood the whole “Tectonic shift thing” especially when the home screen displays earth today (+ a little crisp), not to mention the different “levels of destruction” we see earth having from the moon missiles. Looking at buried and it’s intro and then the home screen has always messed with my head.

To be honest I gave up trying to understand the story after BO2 Origins lol. Zombies has some of the most confusing and complex lore. And the more you try to read into it, the more confused and down the rabbit hole you go
These are the kinds of posts I deeply miss. That said, I have nothing to add off the top of my head.
Why did you leave? Why did you leave me Aether storyline, you had one of the most wack stories and events, your badassitude knew no bound, now we get fucking Vanguard zombies, i miss you
Maybe the real mystery are the friends we made along the way.
The unsolved Revelations ciphers. I’m certain there’s juicy details about Dr Monty in those.
What is the meaning behind the Die Rise intro ?
The purple lights and the fact that Samuel dies with the whole victis team , gets resurrected but says “Have we been here before ?”
A couple things that still live rent free in my head.
Dempsey has a quote in The Giant that references how the crew has been to different places like France, Brazil (???) and the moon.
The KN-44 being secretly planted in different sequences of zombies lore like the Dempsey pod crash and the void bow urn hole from DE, the Lab B secret plant soil and Tree takeo boss cell from ZNS and the last frame of the GK ending cutscene when Nikolai 1.0 pranks his 2.0.
For how great the community has been with cipher hunting, it’s amazing how 3arc has still hidden over 10 of them in Rev.
What the fuck is the Nacht Der Untoten comic book loading screen. I love how cryptic it is, but it makes no sense. My only guess is that it’s either the Ascension group with Dr. Yuri being the pentagon thief (him entering the Origins teleporter with the numbers in the background?) or Dr. Pernell using his assets from Operation Stapler to achieve more info from 115 and the Aether (hence why Nacht is the map in question since he sent his boys to look for McCain).
Speaking of Peter McCain, how about that “unfinished business”? Yeah it’s easy to write it off as a red herring, but god why even bring it up to begin with if it’s not gonna be important? It must still be significant and I have no clue if it will be resolved or if they tried to shoot their shot and lost.
Finally, Tag. This map is full of lore dumps and I love it. The failed subjects drawings looking straight out of a horror movie, the ascension group discovering an aopthicon god under the Siberian facility. A personal favorite is the Secret where it gives a two-for-one, giving us the Shangri-La loading screen music with Mars overhead meaning Shangri-La is on mars and CoTD/Tag is on its moon Phobos.
1. What does the revelations cipher that mentions Venus mean?
2. Why was Great Britain teased so much between bo3 and 4? We had the DE newspapers and the remastered MOTD loading screen mentioned a zombie apocalypse in the UK but we never got a map that was set there. Maybe those teasers were about Monty’s backstory or something? I haven’t heard anyone talk about it in a while.
And on top of that there a a dozen more mysteries that were never mentioned because bo4 season 2 was cut. Makes me sad honestly that I’ll never see a new Mrroflwaffles theory video about the aether storyline.
Stuhlinger’s voice in Classified. I think it was theorised to taken place after Tag ended, because what he was saying doesn’t really fit anywhere else in the timeline IIRC.
Also Sally? Romero’s assistant who becomes trapped in the Shangri-La timeloop while searching for him. I’m not really sure why she was introduced since it never went anywhere.

I have but one question that was never answered:

What came first? The aether or the dark aether
For me, after Black Ops 3 zombies, it just died out. I don’t understand any of the story after Revelations and I don’t want to understand. I feel like it’s one of those situations where they ended the main story, but forgot that they had to come up with more story for Black Ops 4 and just made an entirely new story… but I honestly don’t know if that’s what happened or the stories are connected.
Most of my questions boil down to the devs not thinking of it at the time.
Like how did the Kronorium not have Cold War’s storyline in its pages.
Because if it did then Nikolai should have read it and found out that Banishing everything to the Dark Aether is only delaying the inevitable.
But I guess a possible answer could be that even the Kronorium couldn’t predict that humanity’s free will would open up another portal to the Dark Aether.
But it didn’t predict Arlington from breaking the Mob of the Dead cycle so maybe it really can’t predict humanity’s decisions.
Why is Tedd on Alpha Omega?
Why Nikolai? Why did you have to obey the kronorium when all you had to do was wake up? Why did you choose to kill everyone, when you could get the Agarthan Device and choose to stop all this? Look at where your dreams of saving Sam and Eddie got you Nikolai. You’ve been a great disappointment to the fanbase you know. You’ve been a great dissapointment to me.
I think the answer is “Yes” but I would love to have confirmation, were the events of BO4 all part of Ultimis Richtofen’s plan?

I know this likely got forgotten due to BO4’s messy cycle, but it is a notable dropped story point right before Tag.
