Nice, where I live it would probably get a bunch of garbage in and around it, someone is going to try and turn it into their own personal home that they will not move from, the thing will get broken and anything valuable inside will be stripped.

The thing is, if you are homeless in Germany it’s probably on your own volition. I might be naive there, grewing up sheltered and while not rich, not having to think about money too much, but the social net basically means you just have to apply for a home if you are without work. Sure, the state will try to put you back into the work force, but if you play along you can you can live a bare minimum life forever.

I live in the city where these things are from. They are called Ulmer Nest. First of all, there is like two nests in the entire city of ~180k, that’s because what you see is a prototype. There is no viable product (yet? probably never will), only prototypes build in a shed. Second, the homeless shelters here are trash and underfunded. Third, the city loves anti rough sleeper architecture. Like the benches with handlebars in the middle to make it impossible to sleep on them.
This is another one of those start-up/university ideas that never amount to anything. It has exited for a 5 years now without bearing fruit. Housing first is a way better approach than band aid solutions that serve as a convenient excuse to do nothing.

I’m homeless, but wouldn’t be able to use this at all: claustrophobic, plus have diagnosed and medicated PTSD that means, when someone makes me too uncomfortable in my sleep-casket, I come out pepper-gelling, medicated or not. Awesome intentions, poor execution.
