Though there are a lot of improvements that could be made to human biology if we were to create a humanoid robot, I don’t think messing with limbs is a good idea. Any humanoid robot should be made completely faithful to the human physical appearance to avoid grossing people out.

I might be a freak of nature, but I do this in a pinch sometimes—but using a normal finger instead of a second thumb (obviously). I bet two thumbs would work better though.

How hilarious is it that we created these bottles, and yet our morphology isn’t even the most efficient at using them?

Like, we engineered almost the entire world we live in, created it from the ground up, but we still didn’t manage to fit it to our bodies.

Get it together, humanity, sheesh. No wonder the cool kids don’t want to talk to us

I say we forget all about finger dexterity and put all our points into palm dexterity. Biggest part of the hand, let’s use it! Give me a suction cup grip

  6. Trade_Administrative

That hand could do a lot of jobs!

  7. Working in a lab you learn to do weird peculiar things with your fingers, and extras will just make it a slightly bit easier.

  8. OldGoblin

I do this all the time, it’s plenty possible with one thumb as long as you use your palm to hold things

  9. DefTheOcelot

I wonder what other bottle-shaped objects you could twist and untwist.

  10. Asspiringdickhead

Wait… you cant open a bottle one handed? I thought that was normal

  11. Suberizu

I always thought our hands were kinda badly shaped. I want that if ever were to lose one or two

  12. TheRisen073

… I can already do both of those with one hand… and I’m not even talking about holding them regularly.

  13. superbatprime

OK, but I can do both those tasks one handed. So can plenty of people. I don’t regard this as “beyond human dexterity.”

  14. Maybe the AI art creepy hands are onto something

It is one thing to refine the designs of prosthetic limbs to improve quality of life.

It is another to redesign the workforce to better fit the tool, rather than redesign the tools to better fit the workforce. Slavery and kids losing fingers climbing into looms and industrial revolution machinery happened.

Don’t dump something like this here without the original context OP, it’s irresponsible.

There are types of lemurs that already have 2 thumbs. Also, Koalas. Clearly, we are way behind on the evolutionary bell curve.

  17. Wise_Breadfruit_8737

There is already an attachable prosthetic thumb that people could control with their toes that basically does this

  18. Skill issue, i can do these things with 5 fingers already

  19. VeganPizzaPie

So Midjourney was just ahead of its time.

  20. First image look like those finger people from spy kids

This tells me nothing about how to manipulate robots into…

…^(uum what I want them to do.)
