Except in Cyberpunk, there wouldn’t be reduced sentence.

Also in cyberpunk, the organs would belong to the private healthcare company who extracted them and rented to the patients. See Repo Men!

Is there anything wrong with the idea?

  3. SpartanDoubleZero

I thought felons were excluded from being organ donors. These bureaucrats need to figure out wtf they want.

Is this for real? Like, a real law being proposed?

Damn I was telling someone the US isn’t as bad as China since at least we don’t harvest organs. I guess I spoke too soon.

  6. Boogiemann53

Nono, this is exactly what those kinds of options are about. Are you willing to sacrifice your own integrity? Easy money…..

  7. One kidney, a liver, one lung, a spleen, plus a heart, and you go free.

  8. They’d just do a full harvest and “reduce” your sentence that way

  9. matrixislife

Meh. They’ll just sentence people to longer terms to get the reduction, it’ll balance out.

Yes, the sentence would be reduced. They take both your kidneys, hold you two days, then let you go with a nice new tattoo.

Most prisoners in the US have hepatitis and other STDs. Especially the long term ones that would benefit from this. I don’t think they’ll be getting as many candidates as they hoped.

My brother in law decided to keep his commission in the navy for the health benefits, which meant he could give his 8 year old daughter a kidney.

So the reality is that in the US giving up your organs is a protected thing that you have to be a high-ranking slave to do.

That is wrong. We could easily solve the organ donation problem. Make it an opt-out process, rather than opt-in. If everyone had on the driver’s license that they were opted-in, with the choice to opt-out, then most people would be signed up. Because nobody expects to die, and so, people don’t sign up. If you make it automatic, then most people would be signed in and there would be plenty of organs to save lives.

r/ABoringDystopia levels of crazy right there.

Instead of letting prisoners work towards reintegration into society, they’re just forcing them to give up their organs. (Because really, if you’re already looking at a long sentence, why not cut it short by giving up one (or more) of your organs?/s)

  15. Wolfshadow36

I’d be fine if it was just donating bone marrow, but organs are slightly too dystopic for me.

Come on man, I don’t come to this sub to see how the real world is becoming a dystopia! I want to see art and creations that comment on this kinda stuff, not just see depressing news and a title saying “isn’t this a cool cyberpunk thing”

One step closer to Max Headroom’s body banks….

This is cyberpunk, I doubt many sentences will be significantly reduced. Our Govt loves making hollow promises.
