Why was Blood Of The Dead hated so much?

    I re visited lt and was just wondering I just don’t think is as bad as a map people say I liked the story with it also. I love bo3 way more then 4 but I think people are to harsh on it.

    I wasn’t aware it was hated that much. Besides the bi4 mechanics which are considered a bit crummy, this was considered one of the best aether maps in Bo4.

    But I think people disliked it as it was a remake, which in retrospect all the Bo4 maps are. That, plus the general consensus on Bo4 by the end of the year, I think people just don’t look back on it as highly.

    The only problem i have with itself, is that you dont know where pack a punch moves. But that doesnt matter if you get your points, then activate PAP and everything at the first location on the roof. And maybe that only adding the magmagat as wonderweapon is also kinda meh.

    The hate is due to the overhype, because thought they will get MOB or better than MOB and because they also feel so much nostalgia to MOB. I played MOB since release and I dont feel that way.

    Ranking of all maps, i would put BOTD into the low 10’s. So somewhere 16th-19th.

    Because it was better than Mob of the Dead and it existed in BO4 so people had to hate on it.

    I think its because it had to live up to the expectancy of its predecessor MoTD(this can also be the same with all the other remakes/reimagines in Bo4). With such high demands, it was the type of map to either hit or miss – and as it turned out it missed fairly hard. Personally, I think it’s an ok map(C tier: I would certainly play it over others), but my biggest issue is how tedious the easter egg is(probably my least favorite easter egg to exist unless you count Classified). However, the story is one of the greatest things that the map has to offer.

    Probably because it wasn’t as good as Mob of the Dead which is a highly loved map.

    It wasn’t what the community wanted…. At all

  8. Some didn’t like the way the basic mechanics changed, and the EE was far more difficult than previous maps.
    I do agree with the difficulty of the EE, but there were some redeeming qualities to it. I gave them credit for recognizing how often people went for the same 4 perks, and tried to mitigate that. I did want to try other perks, but without those core 4 I never made it too far.

    And the ability to customize how you played, was a great opportunity to have a few runs where you just learned the map; perk locations, PAP, the power, etc.

    Overall, I think BOTD didn’t quite live up to the hype, due to impossible expectations. We wanted that feeling we got from the original MOTD, but that sort of feeling can’t really be recaptured. Which gave it a much worse rep than I think it should have gotten.

    This was the map most people were hyped for when it was revealed so there were a lot expectations for it because it was Primis on the fan favorite Mob of the Dead. Take into account that BO4 launch was horrible, full of performance issues that give a lot of trouble to players especially with bluescreens and first impresions are important. It was complicated to go past round 25 without the game crashing and the EE was pretty hard and tedious by itself. So consindering that you have a very hyped map on a poor optimazed game and the EE is already complicated, then you have a lot of dissapointed players who will find every aspect of the map (and the whole game) as a downgrade for previous games.

    Things like the perk system were already controversial and with the things pointed out above then the most vocal players will flak every change in the map like: magmagat being better than acidgat, no plane or golden gate, Pack-a-punch being a downgrade from MOTD (I agree with this one), no afterlife, etc.

    I would bet on the bo4 hate train.

    But 4 real isn’t as great MOTD was, too much hype, still good regardless, a solid B tier map (the EE can go fck itself).

    For me the best quality about this map is the characters, i feel like the primis are in their peak, had a great time listening to these fellas (my english kinda sucks, my bad)

    From what I’ve seen the opinions on blood of the Dead is pretty split 50/50. Personally, I could take it or leave it.

    I think the reason it isn’t more popular is because Mob of the Dead was such a solid, classic, zombies map and the way the zombies move and their behavior in bo4 just doesn’t quite fit the mold and makes navigating and training much more annoying.

    As far as the Easter egg goes I’d say objectively that its one of the hardest quests in all of zombies. The tediousness of the bird step turns a lot of people off. 40+ spawns that span the entire map makes looking for it a solid 5 minutes per round. I personally don’t mind the bird step but I know all the shortcuts and spawn locations by heart and I understand why casual players would hate it. I actually love how “difficult” the quest is but I’m an overpowered veteran who loves a challenge.

  12. TheJackFroster

    1. The Easter Egg is incredibly tedious.
    2. The Magmagat is lame as hell (pun intended).
    3. The extensions of the map barely add anything gameplay wise as you are rarely in them.
    4. The things that really set Mob of the Dead appart from other maps, the unique cast with really tight story telling limited to a single map and the Afterlife mode are absent.
    5. You can’t visit the Golden Gate bridge.
    6. The Pack-a-Punch has no indicator despite Blood being fucking huge with the locations for the machine being on literal opposite ends of it, bizzare decision on Treyarch’s part not to include something to easily find it.
    7. BO4 Perk system. A flawed attempt to fix something that was never broken to begin with.

    Simply put it adds very little good features to Mob and takes away a decent chunk of what made it unique.

  13. purplearcheoligist

    It kinda messed up the flow of the mob of the dead, areas like the showers are now pointless

  14. People overhyped it and were unable to play it because the game released broken to an extent that literally anything could make it crash, patch notes had stuff like “fixed an error that would make the game crash when a zombie is killed”.

    Different mechanics made people mad, at launch BO4 was a 3 hit down (150 HP), there was no increase in reload speed for having all 4 perks purchased, and some perks were nerfed like PHD for example, which used to only reduce self explosive damage instead of removing it.

    Map specific features were changed:

    No plane;

    Golden Gate PaP got replaced by a common PaP which teleports around the map but has no indication of where it is like CotD/Tag;

    No afterlife mode which got replaced by shield spirit blast mechanic, but BO4’s shield is paid and price increases with every purchase;

    The EE has a series of challenges just like Gorod Krovi but now more repetitive and heavy dependant on the shield;

    Most of the new areas added felt unnecessary because of bad layout, and the lack of need to travel through the map.

  15. uncledrewwasalie

    It was a Black Ops 4 map so it launched and ran like garbage.
    It removed the coolest parts of Mob in building the plane and going to the Golden Gate Bridge for PAP.
    It added new areas which were admittedly cool but rendered many areas on the original map useless and made the map way bigger than it should be.
    PAP was so awful, Treyarch had a fetish for making it move around the map during Black Ops 4 and for some reason the designers behind this map neglected to allow you to know where it is without checking every spot, even though Voyage of Despair came out alongside this map and fixed this exact problem. The map is so huge that checking every spot ruins the flow of the game. Having to go back and forth because you need to upgrade each weapon five times makes this even worse.

    I’m always confused because botd is remake
    (Like)

    Tag der toten

    Classified

    Alpha Omega

    These maps are very good and they like the orginal map just with another cracters

    Botd=mob

    Tag=call of the Dead

    Classified=five

    Alpha Omega =nucktown

    They are the same man why u hate bo4 its a good game

  17. danman1316

    You look me in the eye and tell me you enjoy the bird step

  18. Win-Objective

    It didn’t have the Golden Gate Bridge in it. That was such a fun part of mob of the dead.

  19. Censored4TateSpeech

    It was the only bo4 map I really played and I don’t even remember PaP-ing even once on BOTD. Idk I just didn’t like bo4 as a whole so it didn’t get much playtime from me.

    I think if it were on literally any other black ops game I would have played the shit out of it. Bo3/Cold War

  20. There are a lot of reasons people don’t like it, because the community is so large people will hate it for different reasons but these are I think the major criticisms.

    1. It’s not MOTD, this is a critique I’ve seen for all the reimagined maps in BO4, but BOTD gets it a lot more since MOTD was a fan favorite map with unique mechanics, it also doesn’t help that expectation’s for the map were a lot higher because of this.

    2. BO4 mechanics, any criticism for the systems of BO4 will also be a criticism of BOTD.

    3. The map is huge without a good transportation system.

    4. PaP moving randomly with no way to know where it is, with no transportation and having to upgrade your weapon multiple times makes it really tedious to PaP.

    5. The map and the easter egg are really hard.

  21. Cause it was big ass map going from one side to another

  22. Shaun_LaDee

    Because it wasn’t a direct remaster of Mob of the Dead.

  23. chikinbizkitJR13

    Probably the hardest EE to do, especially solo, the bugs, glitches, and blue screens on bo4 lanuch, bo4 mechanics and hud, and being a Mob remake. In a vacuum this is probably a C map if Mob doesn’t exist but since we have Mob, it is just inferior in almost everyway. I do prefer the story and primis characters in this setting but thats also a debate. The only genuine upgarde is the Magmagat. I think this goes for every bo4 map but if this was made in bo3, it would be considered a great map.

  24. nikosbab

    The only reason I personally excuse for hating botd is the amazingly hard EE. Nothing else. It’s not near perfect, but it’s good enough for people to not make it sound like they’re playing transit 2. I think only the EE is a valid argument for how much someone hates this map
