I prefer Shadows of Evil, but Zombies in Spaceland was also pretty great.
Edit: Yes I am aware that Shadows of Evil isn’t Treyarch’s first map, yes I was aware that was what Lee Ross was referring to, no I don’t care. I don’t care cause it’s a stupid standard that allows for next to no discussion. It’s basically just giving ZIS a participation trophy for not completely shitting the bed like Sledgehammer did with Exo zombies and being more advanced than a map from 2008 developed using reused scrap assets by a few developers for fun over the course of developing a much larger and more important to them at the time game. Like ZIS is a pretty great map like I said, but let’s be honest it could have been nothing but the most baseline competent average map ever developed and it still would have been the best first outing of a developer in zombies. It could have been Alpha Omega and this statement would still hold true, so let’s shift away from the tweet and onto an actual conversation people.

I don’t like zombies in spaceland. Weird take, but I just don’t.

Lee ross knows whats up, it was 1 of the best zombies imo, sadly it got canceled, unless..?

Final Reich >>>
CarlosG358
His comment means out of any studio, not any CoD with zombies.
Treyarch – Nacht der Untoten;
Sledgehammer – Outbreak;
Infinity Ward – Zombies in Spaceland
Agreed in it being best of studio’s first.
Dry-Wave-6865
The competition is outbreak and Nacht der untoten ofc it will be the best
eddygrim
This is probably a valid take. OG Nacht der untoten is very average, Extinction, Exo zombies, and The Final Reich are hot dookie garbage. They did all try new things so I still respect it.
ozarkslam21
Well the only competition is Nacht Der Untoten and Outbreak. And I think Nacht is iconic. ZiS is phenomenal but Nacht was the beginning so I’d give it a slight edge.

I just bought a copy of IW for £4 on ebay so I can check it out.
Jyapp448
Frankly, yes. I agree. I would rather play Spaceland over Shadows. Granted, there’s 3 more maps I’d rather play over Spaceland in BO3, but none of them are the “first” map.
Glittering-Ad4336
Not a fair comparison. Treyarch are the ones who started it all. ZIS is good because they had years of experience playing Treyarchs zombie mode.
Radiant_Criticism566
Gotta agree with this one. Outbreak from Exo Zombies was a solid entry though
Emperor_of_Man40k
Loved it, spent time with a friend playing the hell outta infinite warfare zombies in general but that one was special

say what you want about comparing waw nacht, spaceland, and exo zombies outbreak, but at face level, comparing them as to how they currently are, couldn’t agree more
BroDudeBruhMan
Zombies in Spaceland is still my favorite map of all time. That was the first map I ever tried to get to round 50 solo.
YoungWashrag
I mean I would hope a game with a 3 year dev cycle and a whole team dedicated to zombies would produce something better than a throwaway gag mode made with a box of scraps in a cave.
But nah I actually think Ww2 zombies first map was either as good or just a tiny bit better than Spaceland.

I’m gonna go back and play Nacht at some point. I’m never gonna play Spaceland again.

Mr smug man is back with an ego bigger than his head. Fr, there’s a reason most didn’t care for IWZ. Yeah I know this sub does but the general audience pretty much dislikes IW as a whole when it came out and doesn’t really flock back to it.

IW is actually one of my favourites if not my no.1 fav zombies

Just like /u/shrimpmaster0982 already mentioned, this tweet is kind of ridiculous because you’d have to compare Nacht to ZiS and Final Reich. The latter two maps took ideas from Treyarch maps that came out after Nacht and built off of that. Nacht did not have any of those features due to it predating Verruckt and Der Riese, so it will inherently be worse than ZiS and Riech, which isn’t really a fair comparison.
I don’t expect that tweet to be an unpopular opinion, because who here is actually going to say that a map like Nacht is better than ZiS and Riech?
El_Dumpy
The Final Reich got me feeling some type of way tho
Musicnote328
I think that comparison is a bit unfair, considering Spaceland started development after BO2 and was most likely still being worked on when BO3 released. It’s like starting a race at the halfway point compared to Treyarch who created the whole mode in the first place. Sure, it’s technically the best first ever map made by the studios- but it’s also standing on the shoulders of WaW, BO1. BO2, and BO3 and the lessons learned from those games, while Nacht was a side project that was just fun to play. They weren’t setting out to “make the best first map of all time” they were just trying to make something cool.
Drew_115
Not a lot of stiff competition in that arena
Conveyys
They were the last studio to make their 1st map, 8 years after nacht so ofc that’s the case.
Like Spaceland is good and deserves praise for what it did, but beating nacht and exo ain’t that big of an achievement imo
Educational-Usual641
Nacht still rules above all imo

Nacht der Untoten is the best Zombies map ever, wtf kinda drugs is this guy on?

Id take it a step further and say IW zombies had the most cohesive and fun experience of a CoD game. The story was tight, every map was fun fresh and interesting, and the super Easter egg reward is truly rewarding and encourages replayability along with making playing with new players not such a pain
TheSavage_T
Never got the chance to play it, but it’s been so well regarded for so long I’d have to agree
