This is from the Hong Kong Pro-democracy protests.
These were one of the most Cyberpunk things I have ever experienced in real life.
* Early on, the protesters surrounded and cut down light poles with surveillance camera on them, then destroyed the cameras
* Protesters used laser pointers to blind facial recognition cameras the police were using to try and identify protesters.
* Police used a water cannon truck with blue dye (and pepper spray) that dyed your skin so that protesters could be easily found days later by just looking at people in the street and spotting anyone with blue patches on their skin.
* Protesters ran teams of spotters, drivers, medics etc. all though Telegram, with another site showing a live crowd sourced map of the location of police units, right down to what type of police (riot / regular etc.)
* On the front lines, protesters used a de-centralized mesh networking and chat apps to that didn’t go via the internet so police could not monitor what they were doing, and shutting down cell towers in areas with protests had no effect on their communication.
There was a lot more stuff too. Sad that they never got the democracy there were fighting for, and instead the CCP rolled into the city and brought in the most dystopian law I have seen – 10 years in jail for insulting the Chinese Flag, Anthem or the CCP.
