A collaboration watch has two jobs: give fans something recognisable, and remain appealing to those who have no connection to the source material. The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical created for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 takes that balancing act very seriously. Its black case and textured dial establish the character first, while the gaming references take a little longer to spot.

Captain Price, the game’s protagonist, wears the watch in the game, continuing a Call of Duty partnership established in 2025. That watch, though a perfectly fine Khaki Field, didn’t inspire Call of Duty fans quite as much, as it seemed like Hamilton was playing things a little too safely. It wanted a COD watch, but it didn’t want to alienate Khaki Field fans. Also, it didn’t necessarily look like the sort of watch you’d find on the wrist of a Special Forces operative, either; however, this time around, Hamilton has gone all out, taking this new model in a much darker and ultimately more fitting direction.

The response from Hamilton fans, and indeed, the Call of Duty fanbase, is clear. This new Khaki Field Mechanical nails the brief. Obviously, with so much fanfare around the new game dropping, we just had to get our hands on this new piece and give you the full rundown of what it’s like to wear. So let’s pick a spot and drop in.

The case

The dimensions make a persuasive starting point: 38mm across and 9.5mm thick. This is a compact, slender case rather than an oversized interpretation of tactical equipment. Its lugs are relatively long, but overall it’s a compact package and will sit comfortably on most wrists. It’s slim enough to fit under the cuff of your combat jacket or tactical gloves, too.

The stainless steel surface receives a sandblasted finish and black PVD coating, giving the case a subdued appearance that ties into the dial rather than framing it with bright polishing. Hamilton has referenced British-issued General Service watches as an influence, connecting the design to Price’s British Army background. At the very least, it adds context, but once you see the finish in the metal, it’s hard to imagine it any other way than black PVD.

A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial, while water resistance is rated to 50 metres. That latter specification deserves attention: the military styling shouldn’t be mistaken for a more ambitious water-resistance rating – there’s a solid case back on this model, and plenty of watches with a push-pull crown manage at least 100 metres these days. I think it’s time we started seeing more focus on water resistance for the Khaki, given its intended functionality.

Additionally, despite the crystal’s anti-reflective coating, I found the watch particularly challenging to photograph, as the crystal was surprisingly reflective. Since most wearers won’t be photographing it under unforgiving professional lighting, this isn’t likely to be a problem in real-world use; I just wish that awesome dial were a little easier to see in certain lights.

The dial

Ah yes, that dial. This is where the edition makes its strongest show of force. The black dial has a heavily grained surface, bringing texture to a palette that could otherwise look rather flat. Muted green numerals and minute markings continue the restrained approach, while yellow details at 12 and on the seconds hand interrupt the darker tones without taking over. The dial makes the watch look tough, hard and ready for anything.

As described in our introduction to the Modern Warfare 4 Khaki Field Mechanical,  you might not have noticed it yet, but there’s a direct Modern Warfare 4 detail hidden in plain sight, too. The dial’s Arabic numerals have incorporated the game’s distinctive 사 (sa) into the numeral at four o’clock – the Sino-Korean word for “four”, and a reference to Modern Warfare 4’s Korean setting, a detail subtle enough that you can wear the watch without immediately announcing you’re a hardcore COD fan to everyone.

There is a practical reason behind that appealingly moody treatment, too. Green markings against black are a different proposition from a stark white-on-black layout, so the restrained colour scheme shouldn’t automatically be equated with maximum daytime contrast. Hamilton opted for Grade X2 Super-LumiNova on the numerals, hour markers, and hour and minute hands. The result is a dial that’s perfectly usable once everything goes dark. Perhaps that’s the point, despite my gripe about the reflective crystal.

The movement

Hidden behind the engraved solid caseback is Hamilton’s H-50 hand-wound mechanical movement, with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron balance spring. A full wind provides more than three days of running time: useful if this shares wrist time with other watches, rather than serving as an everyday companion.

The important ownership distinction is that it needs to be wound by hand, not merely by wearing. For an enthusiast, that interaction is certainly part of the appeal; for the uninitiated, though, arriving from the game and buying their first mechanical watch, it’s worth understanding before picking one up. It could lead to some confused wrist-shakes as you try to get the watch ticking.

The movement also connects this edition to Hamilton’s wider field-watch offering. The Khaki Field Mechanical 36mm, inspired by the FAPD 5101, also uses an H-50, despite pursuing a much more explicitly historical design. It’s hidden behind a neat-looking solid caseback, engraved with Modern Warfare 4 insignia and the “Modern Warfare Soundwave”, a reference to a weapon used in the game; but I won’t give too much away.

The strap

A khaki green textile strap and black PVD pin buckle complete the package. The colour links the dial markings to the rest of the watch and its tactical appearance, while the buckle avoids introducing an unrelated flash of polished steel. With a 20mm lug width, there’s also a clear sizing reference for anyone considering an alternative strap.

Hamilton’s presentation extends the character connection beyond the watch itself: the watch arrives with packaging modelled after traditional cigar cases, referencing another recognisable aspect of Captain Price, well known to enjoy a post-mission Cuban Villa Clara. Most won’t notice it, but if you’re a long-time Call of Duty fan, you’ll appreciate this detail.

The verdict

The biggest improvement over the earlier Black Ops 7 collaboration is how much of the identity carries through to the watch’s overall look. That model found its novelty largely confined to the engraved caseback. But here, texture, colour and typography give the collaboration a visible purpose without overwhelming the Khaki Field underneath.

Calling it the best-looking Khaki Field would turn a matter of taste into an unnecessary contest. More usefully, this is a coherent option for someone who wants a darker, more contemporary version, whether or not they follow Call of Duty. The slim case is appealing, the manual winding requires commitment, and the 50m rating remains a consideration. But it’s still damn cool, and as we all know, more often than not, that’s all it needs to be.
