TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texas A&M University Texarkana esports teams held their first week of competitions.
The TAMUT iRacing driver, Wesley Shaw, qualified for the CIL College Cup and raced on Monday. However, he was unable to finish the race and placed 33rd.
On Tuesday, the Marvel Rivals team was defeated by K-State Varsity in a 3-0 match. The UND Green defeated the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team in a 2-0 match.
The Rocket League team, led by Jonathan Galdamez, won in a close 4-3 match. Galdamez scored 11 goals, performed seven assists and made 12 saves. Eric Smith scored six goals, seven assists and 13 saves. Brian Gallion scored three goals, three assists and five saves.
The Overwatch 2 team saw a clean 3-0 victory over the UCO Bronchos on Friday night.
“It was all right. I wish I could have played a little bit better, but due to the circumstances. I still think I played pretty good,” Garrett Johnson said. “I think our setups are just kind of where we kind of lack the most onto. So just making sure that we kind of get those out of the way. I feel like we can just kind of implement that a little bit better.”
Pittsburgh State defeated the Valor team in 3-1 match.
The Apex Legends team played on Saturday and finished seventh out of 17 teams that played on the first day of the Open Division competition. Brandon Augustus led the team with 14 kills, 10 assists, 18 knocks and made 4,706 points in damage. Brayden Arnold had seven kills, 10 assists, eight knocks and made 3,187 points in damage. Paul Ntasin added four kills, 12 assists, four knocks and made 2,250 points in damage.
