Seven months after its release, the horror game Resident Evil Requiem has hit the 8.5 million mark in units sold. Analysts estimate the game has brought Capcom approximately $500 million. However, sales distribution across platforms has been far from uniform.
According to data from analytics firm Alinea Analytics, Xbox accounted for just 8.6% of the game’s total volume, which equates to roughly 731,000 copies. Sales on PlayStation and Steam were roughly five times higher, with a nearly equal split between those two platforms.
PlayStation Maintains a Significant Lead
One factor explaining the sales gap remains the scale of the PlayStation audience. According to data cited by IGN, Sony had shipped 95.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles by June.
Despite a slowing sales pace several years post-launch and rising hardware costs, Sony’s ecosystem maintains a massive user base. The release of GTA 6 this fall is expected to be an additional catalyst for the platform.
Notably, a significant portion of Resident Evil Requiem buyers on PS5 opted for the physical version, with over 30% of sales for the Sony console coming from discs.
Xbox Holds a Significantly Smaller Share

Against this backdrop, Xbox results look more modest. Microsoft has not disclosed official Xbox Series X|S sales statistics for several years, so analysts must rely on third-party estimates to gauge the audience size.
Industry experts estimate total sales for the current generation of Xbox at just over 35 million units. For comparison, the Xbox One reached roughly double that figure over a similar period.
The disparity is particularly visible with Resident Evil Requiem: the Xbox versions accounted for only 8.6% of total sales, while PlayStation and Steam together made up the vast majority of the volume.
Thus, the game’s high performance demonstrates sustained audience interest in the franchise, although the popularity of Resident Evil Requiem varies significantly across different platforms within the gaming industry.
