Sega recently revealed that Crazy Taxi: World Tour will include Japanese as a playable region. Fittingly, the region made its debut at Tokyo Game Show. I jumped behind the wheel and steered my way through Japanese streets to see how the newest Crazy Taxi game is adapting the region.
While driving through Tokyo, players can spot landmarks like Tokyo Tower and the distant Mt. Fuji. They can also drive through iconic locations like Shibuya Crossing, which is also home to a Sega building in-game. Additionally, you’ll hear Japanese music as you weave in and out of traffic.
When accepting jobs, I noticed that the NPCs and their requests were themed around various aspects of Japanese culture. One character wore flowy traditional robes, while another tasked me with taxiing a baseball player. There was also a time trial challenge in which I needed to hit a series of checkpoints before time expired, and a pizza delivery challenge in which I’d lose pizzas that physically collided with the environment.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is leaning into the “world” aspect, with distinct locations to explore as players rack up miles on the odometer. The full game is set to release in 2027. Check out more of what we played this year at Tokyo Game Show.
