NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Titans host the Seattle Seahawks tonight in the NFL’s preseason.
It’ll be the next opportunity for the Titans’ starters to execute the offensive and defensive systems put in place by the new coaching staff.
Quarterback Cam Ward aims for a better showing than in the first preseason game against San Francisco. Ward completed just five passes on 12 attempts for 57 yards. The first unit did score a touchdown on its opening drive, but failed to be consistent in the rest of its possessions.
Sunday’s game comes after a joint practice on Friday between the Titans and Seahawks.
Titans coach Robert Saleh said he’s looking for execution over results on Sunday.
“I know this is a results-based business, but it’s like I tell our players, the preseason may not count, but it still matters,” said Saleh.
“So thankfully we have the luxury to not worry about the scoreboard and the result of a play. We can look at our technique, we can look at our execution, are we doing the right things? Are we making the right reads? Are we making the right checks? Are we communicating the right way? Is the quarterback making the right decisions? That to me is what’s going to define success. We can go back to Cam’s (Ward) performance last week. He was making the right decision, now we got to execute a little bit better. But like I said, those are all teachable moments. But the plus is that he made the right decisions. As long as the guys are making the right decisions and communicating the right way, the technique is going to come. And so for me, that’s success in the preseason.”
