Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has held two separate closed beta events at this point. They’ve apparently received a lot of feedback from those periods and are thus making it their goal to cram in as much of that feedback into the game as possible.
Earlier this month, the development team for the game released a gameplay trailer that specifically detailed 10 big changes that have been implemented into the game. Since then, the developers have been highlighting each of the individual adjustments leading up to the Arc World Tour 2025-2026 which will feature an upcoming demo build of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls that has all 11 characters playable.
“Removed whiff cancelling of Link Attacks. This is a nerf to Link Attacks,” said the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls developers on social media.
“When Standing L whiffs, the Link Attack L no longer triggers. This eliminates instances where a character tracks the opponent character when crossed up.”
During the clip and the gameplay trailer itself, characters are only shown failing to whiff cancel into Link Attacks with a light starter. Based on the wording, it’s difficult to ascertain whether this change is only affecting light Link Attacks or all versions.
Regardless, this is a major change that will likely reward experienced players for properly spacing their attacks. Additionally, players are less likely to be rewarded for simply mashing buttons in neutral.
Previously, it was difficult to interrupt a player that had already whiffed an attack in neutral. From there, the extension and forward moving properties of other types of attacks that characters are able to Link Attack into would bring fighters closer to their opponent automatically.
