I was a little low on cash, and decided to solo, bringing only a leggy FR556, armour, and epic backpack. No self revive. I was hoping to do the ‘Get Supplies’ contract and grab maybe a milly in loot and get out. I risk it and go for the serpent town safe since it was close to my spawn.
I looted the safe, and was about to keep looting crates when I got gunfire and footstep pings coming in. I ran, and they followed. I cornered myself in one of the unnamed towers and took them on. Three real guys who had legendary armour and mythic weapons. It was really close. I took one of their three-plate leggy vests and a leggy bag and ran up to the train tunnel to take the zipline to the centre of the map. I planned to pass by the center to get to the exfil at refinery.
Then, SQUAD HUNT! They approach from the direction of serpent island hotel. I get scanned, and shit my britches, turn tail and run. I scan as I run, and only see one ping, so I engage, and win. He had the assaulter pistol when you get downed but it didn’t help him. Yet, he remains in shock, meaning he has a teammate around. Then I get sniped, but not downed. I duck behind a car, Plate up, and long shot the sniper with my FR556 after locating him. Luckily, it was just a duo. Once I finish the sniper, I am told I’ve evaded the hunt. I loot them and move on.
I decide to play it safe, and cut through business district, hoping to avoid enemies. My perk lets me see looted crates and they all have been, which stresses me out. But I encounter no one. I do, and make it to serpent fortress, looting one mythic there. Then, the refinery helicopter is called in. I scan, and it’s a solo. My scan is invisible (as the selected perk. I don’t like it when my presence is known). I parachute down, and they don’t notice. I sneak up behind them. They don’t notice. I start shooting, see the mythic armour damage indicator, and they notice, but it’s too late. their helicopter leaves while I’m looting the body, and he has mythic armour and bag on him. He also has a self-revive kit, as well as a lot of work badges and those two rare Ram-7’s. (He only brought one mythic gun, something I regularly do as a cost-saving measure.)
While I finish looting, the Kurohana flame trooper sneaks up on me and lights me on fire. I run, but get downed. I’m about to freak out, when I notice that I’m not dead. The self-revive! I get up, plate up, finish off the flamenaut, and re-call in the extract with 10 seconds to spare. I extract a rich man, with nice gear.
Definitely one of my best DMZ runs, shockingly underprepped and with a lot of confidence after such an elite match. Sorry to all I killed, I know I’d be sad if it was me. But it’s a dog-eat-dog world, and today, I was on top.
