This is the type of PC that looks the part and is going to be brilliant for anyone who’s sticking to a budget of under $1,000 who wants to do something brilliant for FHD gaming at high framerates. It’s also great if you want to experience the improved AI and ray tracing capabilities, and faster GDDR7 VRAM that comes hand-in-hand with Nvidia’s new Blackwell architecture, but without completely breaking the bank. The Intel Core i5-14400F is a quality CPU for the price, offering solid gaming and productivity performance. It features 10 cores (6P and 4E), which allows it to be fairly adept when it comes to multitasking and various multithreaded workloads, and has a 4.7Ghz boost clock speed with 20 MB L3 cache, making it decent for 1080p and 1440p gaming, which the RTX 5060 targets. Overall, it’s a very good budget-oriented CPU, with the only real downside being that it’s built for the older LGA 1700 socket, meaning you may find yourself in need of a newer LGA 1851 compatible motherboard if you fancy upgrading the Intel Core Ultra series later down the line.
RTX 5060 graphics card
The best graphics card you can get if you’re looking for something excellent for high refresh rate FHD gaming, that’s also packed with all the latest technology and features brought forward by Nvidia’s new Blackwell architecture, all without breaking the bank, that is. Notable features of this card include its 8GB of faster, high-bandwidth GDDR7 VRAM, 4th-gen ray tracing cores, 5th-gen tensor cores, and exclusive features like MFG and 9th-gen Nvidia Encoders. In terms of performance, it’s a significant step up from the RTX 4060, thanks to its higher core count and GDDR7, and it has the edge on the, albeit very well-priced, RX 9060 XT 8GB, too. For FHD gaming, this is ideal, but for 1440p, you’ll want to lean more towards the RTX 5070.

RAM and storage
It’s a pleasant surprise to see 16GB of DDR5 RAM here, which isn’t always the case with sub-$1000 RTX 5060 builds. This is a good amount of RAM to enhance gaming performance and reduce stutter, and it’s also going to be helpful if you’re using this PC for the occasional light video editing or creative work. In terms of storage, you’ve got a 1TB SSD, which is fine for most and, importantly, helps keep costs down.
Things to consider
The only thing you may want to consider here is an equivalent Ryzen AM5 model, which gives you more wiggle room for updates and upgrades in the future. Personally, I’d keep a lookout for something with the Ryzen 7 8700F, which is commonly found paired with RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti, and RTX 5070 prebuilds, and is both cost-effective and offers excellent single-core and multitasking performance. MSI is a good brand to check out for RTX 5060, Ryzen 7 8700F prebuilds, as they’re normally very competitively priced.
