One of the most beloved PlayStation 3 action games has a sequel of sorts that is out today on the PlayStation Store.

What PS5 sequel is out today?

Scott Pilgrim EX, the new game based on the Scott Pilgrim franchise, is out today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game is available now on the PS Store, and retails for $28.99.

Although not an official sequel to 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, EX shares a lot of similarities with the 2010 game, including a retro look housed in the beat ’em up genre, as well an original soundtrack by the chiptune-based pop rock band Anamanaguchi.

The new game is developed by Tribute Games, who previously worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, and features a brand new story written by Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. The game is also an unofficial sequel of sorts to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the anime series that was released in 2023 on Netflix.

In the game, players join Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers in a brand new brawling adventure. The game lets players choose from a number of different characters, all of whom can be upgraded with special badges that boost their stats and more. In total, there are seven total playable characters, most of whom fans will remember from the world of Scott Pilgrim.

Other features in the game include:

7 Playable Characters

In his review for the game, PlayStation Lifestyle’s Tyler Treese said the game is filled with charm, depth, and ambition. He called the game a “blast more often than not, and its multiple endings and secrets will keep you playing for far after you roll credits the first time. Tribute Games continues to experiment with beat ’em ups, and this is another strong one from the studio.”
