Siena Softball capped off the Make It Happen Games Sunday, falling to Bellarmine in a game that was started Friday and the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) before earning a walk-off victory over Bowling Green to close the weekend.

Bellarmine 8, Siena 0
The Saints first resumed their weather-suspended matchup with Bellarmine, ultimately dropping an 8-0 decision. Siena totaled six hits but couldn’t generate timely offense, while Bellarmine produced nine hits, including three home runs.

Jordan Strauss pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, and Carlie Venables anchored the defense with six assists at shortstop. Emma Petersen and Ella Milante each doubled, but a two-run homer in the first inning put the Saints behind early. Bellarmine added another long ball in the third and steadily extended its lead to secure the shutout.

UIC 2, Siena 0
Siena followed with a tightly contested 2-0 loss to UIC. The Saints held the Flames scoreless through five innings before UIC broke through in the sixth with a two-run single.

Violet Marta turned in a strong complete-game performance, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Lauren Melton led Siena offensively with a 2-for-3 effort, Petersen added a hit and a stolen base, and Venables recorded three assists defensively. A seventh-inning pinch-hit single from Gianna DiMeglio brought the tying run to the plate, but Siena was unable to capitalize.

Siena 5, Bowling Green 4
The Saints closed the weekend with a dramatic comeback against Bowling Green. Siena struck first with RBI singles from Petersen and Melton in the opening inning.

Bowling Green answered with four straight runs between the second and fifth innings to take a 4-2 lead. Down to their final two outs in the seventh, the Saints rallied for three runs. Venables delivered an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to one, Klein followed with a two-out RBI single to tie the game, and Petersen sealed the win with a walk-off RBI double two batters later.

Seven Saints recorded hits, led by Petersen’s two-hit performance. Valerie Pedersen earned the win in relief, tossing 5.1 innings to keep Siena within reach.

Siena opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play next weekend with a three-game series at Sacred Heart, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
