It’s been a good while since Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was first announced. The first revealed characters were Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Storm, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and Dr. Doom.
Just recently, the roster size for Marvel Tokon was either revealed or leaked. Based on this information, we now know that there will be 20 fighters at launch.
“It’s time to build your dream team and break some spirits in blistering 4v4 fighting action. Choose from an expanding roster of 20 iconic Marvel characters at launch, each rendered in a bold new anime-inspired art style and members of their own unique teams of equally impressive heroes and villains,” originally read the Steam store page for Marvel Tokon.
Curiously, this excerpt of the store description was quickly removed. However, people don’t normally forget information like this once posted even if it gets deleted later. This actually further cements that Marvel Tokon will feature a roster of 20 characters, made up of heroes and villains.
In the latest trailer, Wolverine, Magik and Danger were revealed to be part of the “Unbreakable X-Men” team. It would seem that Storm is leading the team, which is a decision that makes sense due to her characterization as a leader in various forms of X-Men related media.
At the end of this trailer, a very interesting question was posed. “Which team will assemble next?”
In this splash screen, Storm’s portrait was highlighted. This was clearly intended to further emphasize that she would technically be leading the Unbreakable X-Men.
What’s interesting is that we also saw portraits of Captain America, Spider-Man, Dr. Doom and Ghost Rider present. As mentioned before, we already knew about these characters being in Marvel Tokon, but their placements on this splash screen provided us with invaluable hints regarding future reveals.
Just like with Storm, it would seem that Captain America, Spider-Man, Dr. Doom and Ghost Rider are the thematic leaders of their respective teams. This gives us a few good guesses on who will be part of the base roster.
For example, Captain America is likely the leader of some sort of Avengers team. Additionally, we can probably assume that Iron Man will also be present within this team.
We can likely expect a few other fighters known for their Avengers background. A few notable examples include the Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Black Widow and Captain Marvel.
Spider-Man’s team could potentially consist of other Spider-Man characters or “street-level heroes.” Though Venom started off as a villain, he has since become something closer to an anti-hero who is even willing to work alongside Spider-Man from time to time.
Other characters that join this sort of team would include Daredevil, Luke Cage, Punisher, Iron Fist, Moon Knight and Elektra. There’s also a good chance that Ms. Marvel is part of Spider-Man’s team.
Dr. Doom is very likely going to be leading some of the main villains of the Marvel universe. Likely contenders for this team include Magneto, Doctor Octopus, Red Skull, Loki and potentially even Thanos.
Finally, there’s Ghost Rider’s portrait potentially pointing towards some team associated with mystical or cosmic entities. While it would be nice to have a “Guardians of the Galaxy” team, this is clearly not the case right now. So Star-Lord might be incorporated into this team with Ghost Rider as its apparent leader.
Perhaps another character from Guardians of the Galaxy will end up here as well. Other contenders include Shuma-Gorath, Mephisto, Silver Surfer, and Dr. Strange.
Be sure to let us know which characters you could see with each of these teams in the comments section.
