It’s been more than eight months since Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was first revealed, but there haven’t been any more character reveals since then.
While we haven’t gotten to see any new fighters yet, it appears we now know how many in total are going to be in Marvel Tokon at launch.
The Steam store page for Marvel Tokon was seemingly just updated with some interesting new details included.
And the biggest one is of course how many Marvel icons are going to be in the game upon release.
“It’s time to build your dream team and break some spirits in blistering 4v4 fighting action. Choose from an expanding roster of 20 iconic Marvel characters at launch, each rendered in a bold new anime-inspired art style and members of their own unique teams of equally impressive heroes and villains,” reads the about section now for Tokon.
So there we apparently have it. Marvel Tokon will have 20 fighters available since they don’t say something like more than 20 or around 20.
This is very likely building up to new Marvel Tokon reveals later this week at the big State of Play event from PlayStation.
Up until now, we’ve only known that Captain America, Iron Man, Storm, Doctor Doom, Star-Lord, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man and Ghost Rider would be in the game.
Since that’s only 8 characters, it means we still have 12 more left to go left to be announced.
20 fighters is probably smaller than many players were hoping to see at launch as a 4v4 fighting game, but we have been seeing tag fighters go with smaller rosters to start lately.
2XKO infamously said they were only releasing with 10 characters last year (though they ended up including 11) while Invincible VS will have 18 heroes and villains.
There’s obviously no shortage of Marvel icons Arc System Works could pick from, but now we know there are limited spots open to get in at release.
Characters like Wolverine, Hulk, Thor, Fantastic Four, Cyclops, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Deadpool, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Thanos, Jean Grey, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Venom, and Gambit would be popular picks though not everyone is going to get in from the jump.
With the backing of PlayStation and Marvel at least, there should be no shortage of post-release support in terms of DLC characters, so many more will come later.
It remains to be seen, however, how quickly those new fighters will be added to Tokon and just how long the game will be updated.
While there’s no release date set for Marvel Tokon, we can at least narrow down a bit when the fighting game should be coming in 2026.
Considering Marvel Tokon is absent from the Evo 2026 lineup, that clearly points to the bit title coming in the latter half of the year.
We should be learning more about Fighting Souls this Thursday, February 12.
