The Irish government has allowed the country’s new gambling regulator to begin issuing licenses from 5 February.

Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O’Callaghan has signed an order to commence key aspects of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, allowing the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) to begin issuing remote and in-person betting licenses.

The news marks one of the final acts of a multi-year administrative and legislative process that will culminate with the launch of Ireland as Europe’s latest modern regulated gambling market.

Minister O’Callaghan said: “Today marks another important step towards replacing Ireland’s outdated gambling laws with a streamlined and simplified licensing framework.”
