Hi.
Now that the 9850X3D has been out for about a week, I am curious to hear how everyones overclocking journey is going with this new chip.
Myself, I am running the following system:
- 9850X3D with Liquid Freezer III cooler
- 48GB 6000CL26 SK-hynix M-die (140mm fan on sticks)
- MSI x870 Pro WIFI (PI PRE 1.3.0.0)
I have attempted the following set-ups which have all passed 6h TM5+5h SVT+VT3:
- 6000CL26 – 2200FCLK 1.04VSOC, +100MHz, -22.6mv per core CO average
- 7800CL34 (won't do 8000, my 9800X3D did 8000 so I know it is not the ram or mobo) – 2200FCLK, 0.99VSOC. +100MHz, -11,4mv per core CO average
- 6400CL28 – 2133 FCLK, 1.25VSOC, +100MHz, -20mv allcore CO
I found it very interesting, that atleast for me the 6000CL26 set-up is vastly superior than the other two. The 9850X3D all-core boost clock seems to be very sensitive to temperature, and the 6400MT/s set-up has such a high VSOC voltage that it adds an extra 10 watts to the PPT. For the 7800MT/s set-up, I cannot get an average -CO stable with more than -11,4mv (Maybe the high speed stresses the memory controller?). Increasing the VSOC did not help.
The result of this, is that the 6000CL26 runs way cooler than the other two set-ups, and consistently boosts to 5,6-5,7GHz all-core. The 9850X3D eats up the additional wattage with 6000CL26, and prioritizing core boost feels smoother in games than faster ram/IMC. Temperatures hover around 57-63°C in games.
