HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – Michigan Tech students enjoyed the sunshine during a broomball tournament on Sunday.

The tournament is organized by Blue Key as part of the overall winter games for Winter Carnival. Winter Carnival will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

About 20 co-ed and men’s teams played Sunday. Many of the teams were made up of fraternities and sororities, though any organization or group of friends can participate.

Blue Key Special Events Committee Member Dominic Cutajar says broomball is a fun winter sport.

“Broomball, it’s so much fun,” Cutajar said. “I usually play defense when I’m playing and when you get a save or you steal the ball away from someone and you shoot it off to the other end of the arena, it’s great.”

He says other games to look forward to include snow soccer, tug of war and new this year: Hungry Hungry Huskies.
