Although it took a long while to get here, 2XKO finally released in full this month, and hopefully the League of Legends fighter has a long life ahead of it.

The developers over at Riot Games is now looking towards what’s coming ahead for 2XKO, and they want to give the players an idea of what to expect.

They recently dropped their second Weekend Warmup article or report that discusses the current state of the game and what’s the team is working on moving forward.

Director Shaun Rivera contributes a lengthy section regarding 2XKO’s outlook and ideas for 2026 now that their title is out in the wild.

Firstly, Rivera details how playing as duos has been warmly received by the community, so they’re going to be investing more into improving that aspect of the game further to make it easier and “more rewarding to play together.”

The most interesting section, however pertains to the core gameplay in 2XKO.

While the team is amazed by how much crazy stuff the community is discovering in the game already, the director notes that players are pushing the “champions and systems well beyond their limits,” which is both and “exciting and a little terrifying” to them as developers.

“We’re constantly amazed by how much sauce you have found in the short time you’ve had access to Season 1,” wrote Rivera. “You all have pushed our champions and systems well beyond their limits, and it has been exciting and a little terrifying to see.”

“You all have pushed our champions and systems well beyond their limits, and it has been exciting and a little terrifying to see”

“While 2XKO’s core gameplay systems are flexible and allow for a ton of creativity, those same systems are unfortunately making the game feel way too sharp and overwhelming for some players. As a result, you can expect us to take some big swings towards allowing players to get back to the action more quickly and also making interactions more intuitive in general.”

“This will likely feel different than the game you are playing today, more in line with our intended vision for the game, and more satisfying for players and spectators alike.”

While the prospect of improving a fighting game should always be a good thing for players, there are some parts of that which is raising slight concern for its existing base.

Talking about taking some “big swings” and how 2XKO will “likely feel different than the game you are playing today” may be a tight rope to walk for the fledgling community.

A big part of the League fighter’s charm and appeal is the creativity and crazy stuff that’s on the table, but at the same time, you don’t want players to sit there and feel like they’re having to hold that same crazy stuff forever either.

Riot is still trying to strike that balance between all the different levels of the game, but this is their game — so we’re going to need to have some faith that they know it better than anyone and what should be good for it.

But then how much and how often are the players going to be expected to change and adapt with the game as well?

Like I dont think people realize how hard it is to just drastically change all/most combos, make everyone have new bnbs, and leave no outliers (good and bad).

Just look at how utterly broken caitlyn is, shed require a complete overhaul for a short combo system imo

Although it certainly wasn’t the platform fighter’s only problem, the doomed MultiVersus faced an issue where they changed up how the game felt greatly between the beta and full release, which was too drastic for some players to come back to.

Riot is not really offering specifics though as to how different 2XKO is going to become as it evolves throughout the year and beyond, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the devs are cooking up.

Beyond all that, the Director discusses a bit about how the team is going to invest more into community spaces for the competitive scene.

“We are going to continue investing in community spaces (both physical and digital), as well as 2XKO’s competitive scene. It’s deeply important to us that we continue to support the communities that make the FGC what it is today.”

Finally of importance is the game updates section where they talk about specific issues they’re working on fixing in the game.

Rivera previously released a statement on screen tearing and Ranked problems after 2XKO’s latest hotfix update, but they’re also looking at login issues, game crashes, limit strike and unexpected gameplay interactions.

They don’t offer any time table as to when those bugs and issues are going to be fixed, but the team has been updating at a pretty quick pace already — so hopefully not too much longer in most cases.
