I just so happened to want to take this photo of my setup based around an IKEA Ingo desk.
(Photo taken on a Canon Ixus 970 IS, my daily driver camera)
Let's see what's there for you to see. from right to left:
- At the left is a large empty space. Sorry I didn't clean that up, but there is my wallet, a coaster I normally have at the dining table, the belly bag containing some of my uni EDC, a broken pocket calculator, a bird whistle (!) a box o' wires. At the back of this space are some document trays.
- Next to these trays sits the left speaker for my HiFi audio setup. This speaker originally belonged to a Philips MCD975 speaker. On top stands a little box I made myself, containing a chain I also made myself.
- Next to that is a bucket o' pens (and tape), and a science experiment I did at secondary school in a little glass stand. The HDMI cable I'd use for connecting my study laptop, a HP ZBook Power G9, is also here.
- At the center back of the desk stand, from bottom to top:
- A Kenwood GE-470 graphic EQ, on top of which lay a remote switch, a puzzle from one of my aunts, a phone holder on which the iPad stands, the iPad, (not visible) a postcard and (also not visible) a Raspberry Pi 3 for an internet radio.
- An iPad: this iPad is the 8th gen. It is connected via a USAMS charging cable.
- A DELL Ultrasharp 5:4 monitor (I love this size as it's great for writing and working with 4:3 video.
- The main light source for this photo, and the desk in general: a Xedor monitor lightbar controlled via a 'puck'.
- In front of this lies the workmat. This is so big an A4 could fit on it for drawing. I also used this to do some arts and crafts with old electronic devices, using a hot glue gun. This minimizes any damage to anything used.
- On the workmat lie the SD card reader I use with the PC (Transcend), as well as the keyboard (Logitech K380 for macOS) and the mouse (Silver Eagle Dual mode mouse).
- To the right is another empty space. At the back stand, next to the EQ, my Ewent wireless mic for audio recording and (video) calls, as well as an old switchbox of which the buttons broke. Thus I only use this as an adapter from RCA to 3.5mm jack. Here I can plug in wired headphones or the EQ, which connects via a 3.5mm jack to RCA cable plugged in on the photo.
- Next to that is the right speaker for the audio system. Same as left of course. On top stand, from bottom to top:
- A little 'bottle of luck' I got in Bolivia on vacation.
- The PC I talked about a couple times: this is the Lenovo ThinkCentre M720Q Tiny. It runs Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition on a Core i5 9th gen, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.
- The PreSonus AudioBox USB96, my audio interface. It's not only one of 4 fixed sources of the audio system but also allows me to plug in and directly record from my keyboard, a Casio MA101 (not in shot).
- The latest switchbox I use: it has a rotary dial instead of buttons. Every fixed source in this setup connects to it by default. However one does via a RCA to 3.5mm jack adapter, meaning I can unplug it and plug in an audio cable to another device to listen to it in stereo. Like my smartphone (via a silly lil dongle), my 3DS or my portable CD player.
- A USB switchbox: This serves a very specific purpose. It switches a total of 4 USB ports between the PC and another device (typically the iPad connected via an overpriced adapter which is not in this photo). These ports connect to my mouse's 2.4GHz dongle, my monitor (it has a USB hub) and my audio interface. The spare port can be used to connect my card reader, easing transfer of files.
- A thermo-hydrometer and clock in one.
- Next to my desk is an IKEA cupboard my mom bought for me years ago. On it, the front space contains some random things.
- At the back sits a Yamaha KX-260 RS tape deck, which can not only play back tape but is also hooked up in parallel to the EQ's input so I can make clean recordings of what I'm listening to on tape.
- On top stands, at the leftmost space, a power strip with 6 plugs. The last one is a spare, a dual USB fast charger (A+C) is plugged into it at the moment to charge my iPad. I actually got this after another charger was stolen on vacation.
- Next to that an LED candle which yes, works, and the home charger for my study laptop.
- At the center stands the amp: a Philips MCD708 microset. Its DVD player unfortunately broke so I snuck a USB optical drive below it. My previous PC (Packard Bell iMedia S) had an optical drive but this one doesn't… Except I got one for free when purchasing the computer.
- On top of the amp stands my turntable: a Pioneer ATT01USB. It had its stylus changed to a genuine AudioTechnica one, and I bought the TT as the previous one, a Sony PS-J20, had brittle plastics in the tonearm.
- At the very right I have, from front to back:
- a wireless charger for my Samsung Galaxy Buds – I got these when I was in secondary but thanks to some new headphones can easily live without!
- A stamp I can use to mark my drawings – it has an elephant symbol on it.
- And finally a record cleaning brush.
- On the floor below the EQ lies a power strip powering:
- A switching module powering the amp and EQ when triggered by the remote switch.
- The PC
- The Raspberry Pi.
