WINDSOR, Conn. (WFSB) – Eversource volunteers are making the first snow of the season at the energy company’s Windsor facility for the 2026 Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games.

With freezing temperatures forecast for this week, volunteer snowmakers are turning on the snow guns to make piles of snow.

The roughly 1,200 feet of air and water pipes were set up and ready to go.

The bitter cold weather means it’s the perfect time to start making mounds of snow to create the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing courses for the winter games. Volunteers have been working for hours in six-degree weather.

The Special Olympics Winter Games brings together athletes, coaches and volunteers from across Connecticut.

This year, Eversource is partnering with Special Olympics Connecticut to help host the games.

The 2026 Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games is a two-day event scheduled for Feb. 28 through March 1.
