World of Warcraft’s Legion Remix is about to say farewell in a spectacular fashion. The special multi-month game mode wraps up today in preparation for tomorrow’s Midnight expansion prepatch, and apparently it’s going out in a blaze of glory — or, more accurately, a vortex of doom. Players have noticed the ominous giant black hole that’s been growing bigger over the past few weeks, a portent that it’s time to wrap up the speed-leveling and grab all the rewards they can.
Meanwhile, a purported survey from Blizzard is making the rounds asking players what hypothetical new class specializations they might like to see added to the game. These include a healing Hunter, ranged DPS Monk, a tanking Rogue, a healing Mage, and other additional role combinations.
And finally, Blizzard’s marketing is in full gear: The company set a real-life World of Warcraft-themed tavern for the NFL playoffs this past weekend in New England as a way to promote Midnight. “Who doesn’t want a cozy, pregame tavern in absolutely frigid Boston?” said Blizzard Entertainment CMO Monica Austin. “We couldn’t feel stronger about this opportunity. It’s a huge media moment. We want to be there, connecting with our fans.”
The studio said that it has been building the tavern for months in California, only to ship it to the other side of the country for this event. So why the NFL playoffs? Blizzard’s research shows that there’s a lot of demographic crossover between its MMO players and football fans.
