When this game first caught my eye, I had never seen a game like it. As someone who (at the time) had limited exposure to PC gaming growing up, and having only really played Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 and Generals throughout my teen years, this was the RTS that made me pine for a better PC to run it.
The graphics, I feel, still hold up extremely well today. The whole game was a total spectacle.
Finally grabbed a physical copy when I was in my early 20s and was hooked. Granted, I was stuck playing on low graphics settings, but I didn't care.
I'm grateful to still have my Steam copy as well, since it was delisted in favour of GOG (for reasons I can't fathom). But at least you can get it there and keep the installer forever (currently only £2 as well)
I wish they continued supporting this game, and I wish it got a follow-up.
I think the closest we got to a game remotely similar to WiC was Broken Arrow.
Other games I've heard to be similar in some way are;
– Company of Heroes
– Order of War
– WARNO
– Regiments
But in terms of sheer chaos, I dunno if I'll get the same feeling as I did from WiC.
