7 – Nova Roma

I still need to boot up the demo of Nova Roma, which I have installed on my machine for quite a while now. This Roman city-builder is being developed by Lion Shield and published by Hooded Horse, and from what I have been seeing online, players are loving it! Set to come out on the 26th of March, 2026, players will lead a small group of Roman citizens into a new land and try to rebuild Rome from scratch, hence the name, Nova Roma. The star mechanic of the game is clearly the ability to terraform the environment to create new opportunities and optimize your city.
6 – MENACE
The fact that MENACE is one of the top 10 most-wishlisted strategy games on Steam in 2026, and it’s this high up on the list, makes me really happy for the bright future of strategy games. MENACE comes from the same team that tortured us with their tough as nails warband-management-sim Battle Brothers, and its not that very far behind, in fact, after an extensively playing MENACE’s demo, I think it’s pretty much Battle Brothers in space, and instead of playing with medieval-style weapons, it’s bullets and lasers, and the game is shapping up to be one of my favorite releases of 2026. If the strategy layer is as good as the turn-based tactical one, MENACE will be a top 3 game for me in 2026. The demo is still available, and I would highly advise you to give it a try. I’m sure you’ll be adding it to your wishlist as well.
5 – Falling Frontier

Falling Frontier has had quite the development ride, eh? For years, it has been on people’s list as one of the most anticipated strategy games of the year, and every year the game is supposed to come out, and it never does. Fortunately, by having Hooded Horse backing it up as a publisher, players don’t doubt this procedurally generated sci-fi RTS will eventually see the light of day (or a star, because it’s set in space). From what we have seen so far of the game, it looks like it’s going to feature the most detailed ship-on-ship space combat we have ever seen in a video game, with every little aspect being simulated. My only question is: will Falling Frontier be good enough to be crowned one of the best sci-fi strategy games of all time?
