Adams County, Illinois (KHQA) — The Adams County Board voted to enact a new ordinance aimed at reigning in video game gambling in the county.
The ordinance includes a $250 tax on each video gaming machine located in unincorporated areas of the county and reduces the maximum number of machines a business may operate to six, down from 10.
Fifth District board member Bob Reich said the board wanted more control over the popular pastime.
“The city’s been doing the same thing, so the county kind of jumped on board,” Reich said. “Along with this, the sheriff’s department does the inspection for the liquor licenses, which covers video gaming, and we thought we ought to have some county control over it. It’s not going to change a whole lot.”
The new ordinance takes effect July 1 in unincorporated parts of Adams County.
