Why do so many people push the Gear Down Mode (GDM) option so hard and so willingly, even at relatively low clocks—for example, 6000 MHz?
If I understand it correctly, GDM makes the
memory controller more “forgiving” in terms of instability, at the cost of higher latency…
So by aggressively tightening timings, are you trying to regain the lower latencies that were lost by enabling GDM in the first place? Wouldn’t it be better to look for true stability with this option disabled instead?
