The Golden Yachties series is MassivelyOP’s annual set of fauxwards, named in honor of some guy who was convinced we are all making bank writing about MMORPGs is so lucrative that we’re typing MMO blog posts from a gold-plated yacht. Did Poe’s Law apply? Nobody knows. We’re enjoying the view from the yacht’s deck, shown above, however.

Today, we reveal our pick for best worst MMO article of the year. And the winner is…

Eliot blesses the rains down in EverQuest

I have a soft spot for Eliot’s posts that he does entirely as song lyrics, usually for songs that then become an earworm for a few thousand people who click on the article unsuspectingly. This particular innocuous post celebrated the Tempest Festival in EverQuest, but with lyrics set to Toto’s Africa. My favorite part is that it scans, and my second favorite part is that the lyrics actually convey the key info just as well as any article. That’s what makes it best worst.

Generative AI trash could never.

i bless the rains

My runner-up is also from Eliot, who deploys his skill with the French language to roast a deserving Ubisoft executive.

You may be inclined to call Monsieur Guillemot the younger a nepo baby, but that wouldn’t be accurate. The term you’re looking for is “l’enfant népo.” The French word is “népotisme,” so look at that, you learned a thing!

How do you report a murder in French?
