According to the official X account, Melty Blood: Type Lumina has achieved a new milestone. It has now sold over 600,000 cumulative sales since the game was released.

The game was originally released on September 30, 2021 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam. Due to backwards compatibility functionality of the latest generation of consoles, this means that it’s also playable on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 devices.

According to Gematsu, we last heard that Melty Blood: Type Lumina was able to achieve over 500,000 cumulative sales back in June 2024. The fact that the game has been able to sell another 100,000 units after four years is a good sign for the game’s future.

Before then, Melty Blood: Type Lumina was reported to have sold 400,000 units back in March 2023. It would seem that the game is consistently able to push out about 100,000 units every 15 months.

These are certainly impressive numbers for a fighting game. While they don’t quite match up to Street Fighter 6 or Mortal Kombat 1’s numbers, it could be seen as unfair to compare a niche fighting game to something as mainstream as those fighters.

Upon launch, the game came packaged with 14 combatants. The remaining eight characters out of 22 were later added as free DLC.
