Here are the total breakdown of the overall gaming market revenue
- Total Market: $197 Billion (+7.5%)
- Mobile: $108 Billion (+7.7%)
- PC: $43 Billion (+10.4%)
- Consoles: $45 Billion (+4.2%)
PC is the current fastest growing gaming platform out of all the other platforms, and almost ties the overall market revenue of the consoles combined, despite the difficult market conditions of building their own gaming pc today due to more expensive parts and lack of availability that artificially drives some of the components to crazy mark up, yet PC platform has proven itself to be still capable of growing at a rapid pace, Steam daily active user is also another evidence that backs this up compared to just a decade ago, it has grown 5.5 times more.
Consoles seems to be growing as well, although only a bit slightly rather than stagnating like what happened before, it seems like all Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft has found a way to extract more revenue per user on their Console Ecosystem such as the price hikes of online subscription fees, games, accessories etc.
Mobile is still the biggest gaming platform of them all, still bigger than both Console and PC Gaming combined. This is likely due to gatcha pay to win games and combined with bigger userbase overall.
Personally, it would be interesting to see the breakdown in terms of:
- game sales
- subscriptions
- microtransactions
