But this can easily be ‘fixed’ by updating the game

Update: The Online Arcade update is releasing today for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 with additional information in the story below.
The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection launched digitally a couple months back, and now fans of physical media can pick up the game too.
Players who did receive their physical cartridges of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 were surprised to find out that one big title is missing from the package out of the box.
Almost all of the 20+ Mortal Kombat titles are present on the carts themselves, but Mortal Kombat 4 is not there.
Digital Eclipse confirmed that Mortal Kombat 4 was just not ready by the time they had to submit the Switch family builds for production.
This is thankfully easily rectifiable at least since MK4 is added back to the list by updating the game.
Mortal Kombat Kollection on Switch is missing Mortal Kombat 4, reported yesterday by our friend Ricky aka @RetroGameFutur1. Digital Eclipse explained why it’s missing from the Switch release. Should’ve clarified this earlier. Thankfully, other platforms are fine, they claim. pic.twitter.com/h8Pdmp4Dgj

But that hasn’t stopped some buyers from voicing their complaints that they thought they were buying a complete package, which Digital Eclipse apologized for not communicating earlier.
It’s not ultimately a big deal right now, though, MK4’s exclusion from the cart could be an issue someday if/when the servers are shut down — and Digital Eclipse says if they reprint the carts in the future, it will include MK4.
This was an internal comms fumble on our part that this was not communicated during pre-orders. Those ordering now will see the information about MK4 on the the Atari website.

Downloading the updates are a really good idea for the Legacy Kollection anyway since the developers have released multiple patches improving the game’s input lag and performance on the Switch specifically.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection has also received its Online Arcade lobby update on all systems and that now finally includes the Switch family too.
Thanks for your patience, everyone, but the initial Online Arcade update for MK: LK is now out for all platforms, including Switch and Switch 2. We really wanted to make sure everyone could enjoy all the new features (and improvements) for the holiday. https://t.co/c8xe8xioYX

The Standard Edition of the physical release is $60 that comes with a special selectable cover while the Deluxe Edition for $80 includes a steelbook case, magnet, poster, lenticular card, arcade flyers, and more goodies.
Those who ordered the sold out Kollector’s Edition should now be receiving their physical copies of the game too though they’ll be waiting quite a while longer for the rest of the package.
Digital Eclipse confirms they wanted to get the game itself into the hands of players now since the Kollector’s Edition isn’t scheduled to release until late May 2026.
Yes, Limited Run Games is sending out the Kollector’s items separately from the game as those items are currently in production.

You can now pick up the physical Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection releases at retailers or the Atari website for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.
